Argh! - I want my money back.... or a lesson learned

Postby imnumberjuan » Thu Nov 09, 2006 9:26 pm

I was playing Wodbine last sunday at the local OTB, and mainly killing time after a rewarding Breeder's Cup day (I liked Invasor... a lot).

In the eigth race... I thought I saw a Gem... Wake at Noon, 9 year oldcoming off his second race of the year... class of the field ( 1.6+ million in earnings). Here he was ... in a 80 K OC, and nothing close in "class" in the field...

So as I sit with a minute to post ... my buddy says "you know, I think he was a Sire...we looked at a couple of his in the sale"

ARGH!! Why would you do that to this poor bugger.... needless to say he ran like someone who didn't have his mind on racing... %$# SAKES!

Are you saying they brought Wake At Noon back to the races? How'd he run? He's had a few winners so far.

He was a very shy foal getter and was returned to training last year. According to an article I read in the DRF the horse is very sound, except in the reproductive sense.

If you were familiar with the owner , you would understand.

So I take it he was a bit shy with the girls. Poor fella! :(

Sometimes it just takes putting the horse in the hands of good old fashioned folk that care about the horse. Take Basket Weave, for instance! Maybe all he needs is a change of scenery at stud.

I told our 18 year old stallion this spring that I was going to send HIM back to the track if he didn't hurry up and finish what he was working on.

Really, there is nothing more annoying than a slow/shy stallion. The maiden mares seem to be comforted, for about the first 10-15 minutes, then they start thinking about other things they could be doing with their time too.

I pasture bred ours as often as possible, but often it wasn't possible (mares with foals, maiden mares right off the track or with injuries).

Good old horse. But at 26 - it's not about scenery. Last I heard he's still stoppin 'em.
