Petitioners won their battle to take approval of the proposed Dixon Downs (Magna) back to the voters, after it had been approved 4-1 by the Dixon City Council.
What is the feeling in that area? Will voters pass it?
Surely this would be a boon to the economy of the entire area, especially Dixon. But, again, will it pass?

The opposition is well organized and determined. Most of the bureaucracy supports the development, but whether their drive for dollars will sway enough voters still seems problematic. Usually, emotional issues like this bring out the "NO" voters on election day more reliably than supporters.
If the "No" group gets wind of Stronach's recent "I didn't get my way so I'm outta here" abandonment of racing in Michigan, voters may not be so anxious to build the Dixon Downs edifice. We all know what effect closed racetracks have on property values.

Quick...everyone move to Dixon so they can vote YES
I had to take a dog to UC Davis a few weeks ago, and drove through Dixon to get there. I was amazed at the plethora of anti-Dixon Downs signs both on lawns and in business windows. I had a bad feeling then...of course, it seems like a crazy idea to me anyway. In the US, we generally put our racetracks in high population areas. I know with satellite wagering, that isn't NECESSARY any more, but isn't it still a good idea? If Magna really went through with that and closed BM & GGF, I think NorCal racing will be about on a par with Wyoming Downs.
