size of racing saddle

is it my imagination or are the jockey's saddles larger than they used to be? i remember thinking that the saddles didn't look much larger than my hand, w/irons attached. now they look more like exercise saddles. i'm thinking maybe the larger saddles are used in lieu of lead to make up the extra weight?

Most are still very small, it ranges depending on the rider's weight. I had a big saddle that weighed 8.5lbs and a small saddle that weighed 2.5. My small is considered very large for most saddles.
