4 1/2 furlongs in :48 4/5 on Keeneland's new polytrack. By 10.
A Wesley Ward homebred and trainee. Her sire Bring The Heat (In Excess) raced for Ward, making 7 starts, 3 wins, placed in a Cal-bred stakes before breaking down.
Her dam, a $300,000 Calder 2yo, made 6 starts for Ward, placing three times, earning $30,000, before breaking down.
Classic Wesley Ward. He'll sell her for $500,000 to 1,000,000; she'll make a few more starts and join her parents as broken down graduates of the Wesley Ward school of pop-n-stop.

Was watching that online a minute ago... Eye popping....Was adding a zero to her sales value at every stride in the final sixteeth...
Think the Polytrack "low breakdown" stats are going to hold up in this colder weather?
KH
As a funny aside, I was looking at the 16K claimers a few days ago in Race 2 and thinking that they had some consistent 70-80 Beyer runners for $16K, and isn't that a pretty good bargain to run elsewhere in the year, etc. So I was looking to see who was the speediest of the bunch and they ended up running in 26.2 and 52.4 !!! They ran the final 1/8th in 11.22 at least, but it was funny wanting to see at least a hot pace and see them come out at a lope..... No One Hot Wishes there! Not sure what the Beyers were, but they should be bettable next time out since they ran so slow on purpose....

Hopefully, we will be spared that. When I first started getting into the game, I was impressed by these 2YO that started to win races. My friend said "Watch, the ones that win before August, you wont hear about at 3". He was right.
I hear stories of how long ago, horses routinely raced as young 2YO's... but I don't know how true it is. When I get my stock from the 2Yo sale, I give them 2 months off (to varying degrees) in Florida before getting them ready to run. Some trainers I use simply ignore the Triple Crown Trail... they want 3-4-5+ year old racing horses. Some are turf specialists. Some better with colts, some fillys. Some aim for and acheive the Stakes level, Triple Crown type races. It's amazing to me, but the proficiencies of the trainers comes through, even if they themselves would deny it.
Putting the right horse with the right trainer, I think that is the art an owner controls, and one of your more important roles.

You just pointed out why horses like Seabiscuit were able to start their careers in January of their 2yo season.
They weren't hot house yearlings being pumped for yearling sales and drilled for 2yoIT sales. How many times do we hear horses only have a limited number of races in them? If that is truly how people feel, WHY are they wasting some of those races in this moronic speed drills during the 2yoIT sales?
Personally, that jock needs his ass beat. There is NO good reason a 2yo should be running that fast this early and there is NO valid reason for a 2yo to be running sub 11 furlongs in a 2yoIT sale. If she won off like that, then the jock should have been aware enough of his competition to know he shouldn't have been pushing on her like that.

:43 flat to the half? Is that also a world record for a 2 year old? This is INSANE!!!
How can connections of any serious KY Derby contender think of racing on this surface as it now exists? Sales babies were working :20 quarters and this baby today set a new world record. Does Carl Nafzger want to see Street Sense run 1:46 for 1 1/8th mile on Saturday?
I thought Polytrack was supposed to be deeper and safer...this has to be worse than any hard track in the country!

Maybe it's just me, but watching the head on replay I got the impression that she just kept motoring around the turn, he tapped her some and she accelerated, as he didn't urge she started to come back a bit, he tapped her again and her stride quickened once again, she came back a bit he tapped her again and she moved out again! He wasn't drilling her, more like just keeping her mind on the business. She looked like she cruised the stretch and had another gear available.... I could be way out to lunch, but that was my first impression when I was watching the replay...
Or maybe he heard Sheikh Hamdan's comments regarding Fernando Jara's piloting skills.
"When he asked the horse to move, he was looking back to see what was behind him," Sheik Hamdan said of his jockey. "I hate that. When you go, you go. You don't sit and worry about what is behind you."
Interestingly there's a bloodhorse article online that has the 2YO polybullet trainers feedback and that for the hellish times, they are coming back in general amazing shape (though I guess that's what they'd say regardless)

"John Ward, a Keeneland-based trainer who is a prospective buyer at the juvenile auction, talked to a number of consignors, asking them how they felt their horses performed and how their horses were doing following the workouts.
"Overall, there was an upbeat feeling among consignors," Ward said. "They were all very enthusiastic and optimistic. I've watched their horses train the last couple of days, and all of them are full of life."
"Keeneland's track was unbelievable," said Eddie Woods on Thursday. "For horses to go that fast and be able to walk the next day was a miracle. My horses came out of it great. There were no surprises of any description. The (bucked) shins that they had were the shins that they had before they went to Kentucky."
