The GSV and GSV2 continued to show why it is the thoroughbred industry standard to measure genetic strength.
Every major 3yo race has been won by the highest or second highest GSV2 score in the race since the numbers were produced by me from my GRASP databank. This databank has produced many G1 winners and Champions for clients in the 30 years I have been a professional pedigree analyst helping clients produce good foals from their broodmares. Don't get me wrong, I've produced many duds too.
Street Sense was the highest GSV2 score, just like Deaming With Anna was when they won the Juvenile Colt and Filly races in the 2006 Breeder's Cup races. This year, Rags To Riches had a higher GSV2 score than Dreaming With Anna and promptly won the Ky Oaks. Hard Spun had a slightly higher GSV2 score than Street Sense and promply race second to Street Sense.
Don't get me wrong. There will come a time in the near future when the GSV2 will fail miserably in a major 3yo race
When that happens and it will I'm sure there will be many who will jump up and say, How can you explain that? I will only say, "The GSV2 works great in the long run and is sure to fail in individual cases, but like Vegas, the odds favor the highest numbers in the long run.
Hope you all had a great Derby and Oaks day whether you made money or were just a spectator. Since I bred my first winner after I claimed my first horse, there is no greater thrill.
