With many Racetracks facing the same situation of land more valuable than its business, the only way for the Tb industry to fight back is to go with OTB at all the major airports all across the USA.

The extra revenue from OTB would increase the purses dramatically.

Good idea Louis. Betting on races at the airport has to be cheaper than eating a $5.00 hot dog and drinking a $3.00 Coke.

hi madelyn

Yes, the possibility that Hialeah Park might become a development is a very sad thought.

With that in mind...I would suggest that if there was a lifetime achievement award to honor the one most responsible (or at least perceived as most responsible) for the demise of Hialeah Park and horseracing at that once SPECTACULAR facility...you'd likely find that MANY MANY MANY MANY MANY might suggest John Brunetti as someone worthy that dubious distinction.

The Miami Herald article (which you linked) credits Brunetti as saying "We all want to go to heaven but there's a price to pay and no one wants to pay it." What's that all about? Is Brunetti once again trying to blame anyone (everyone) but himself for the poor state of affairs (and condition) of Hialeah Park?

That said...if a poll was taken among thoroughbred horseracing aficionados (with some degree of knowledge re Hialeah Park) as to the merits (or lack thereof) of John Brunetti as they might relate to Hialeah Park...I wouldn't be surprised if most (if not all) might agree that Brunetti has done very little (if anything) to enhance (much less ensure) the Park's prospects of not only existing, but also flourishing as a thoroughbred racing facility extraordinaire.

Regardless...I hope that somehow or another Hialeah Park becomes (once again) the INCREDIBLE facility, destination and racing venue that it once was.
