Never too early to be thinking about contenders.
Cockney Rebel today won the Irish 2000 guineas to add to his British guineas win. His trainer has declared that if all goes well they'll be aiming him for the B.C. mile.

I shipped one mare to Strategic Mission and the other to Kipling earlier this year for breeding, only to watch Kip Deville edge Showing Up by a neck or whatever in their recent showdown. How ironic. Made me drool to think of ever having a horse like one of those.
The BC Mile is one of my favorite events in horse racing.

I wuld think pretty good...assuming he took to the grass, but I don't see why he wouldn't.
I also like Icy Atlantic, I don't think he wants any part of the BC Turf this year
BTW, Showing up was my derby choice, one of my fav horses out there
You know who I wuld try in that race or at least give him a shot?
Circular Quay
He can't go a route of ground (effectivly)... he seems to me to be a late closing, very late closing sprinter.
give him a shot on the grass

hi guys
As for his structure/conformation...Hard Spun appears (on camera anyway) to be a very robust Danzig, somewhat sprint-type. Taking his pedigree and physical appearance (at least on TV) into consideration...I would expect that if he made the transition to turf and handled it as well as (or better than) he handles the dirt...the BC Mile would likely be right up his alley.
That said...I'd submit that the BC Mile could be right up Icy Atlantic's alley...but ONLY if the turf is FIRM.
The key word is FIRM. NOT good, NOT soft, NOT yielding, NOT heavy but FIRM FIRM FIRM.
Respectfully
Interesting thought...a Danzig whose 2nd dam is by Roberto...hmmm...very interesting.Danzig wrote:How would Hard Spun fair in said (Breeders' Cup Mile) race?

I had always thought that Hard Spun was bred to go long (I mean Belmont long), but watching him set these very fast fractions suggests to me that a mile might be his distance. Whether it's on the turf or not I don't know.
Didn't they just institute a B.C. dirt mile, or was that just wishful thinking on someone's part? I know they added three new ones but I forget what they were.

FOS, I agree. However, I'd have to say that his best race thus far was on the synthetic at Turfway in the Lane's End Stakes (G2) which, in my opinion, would lead one to believe that he could handle the transition rather easily.
