Triple Crown Trivia

Postby madelyn » Fri Jun 01, 2007 8:29 am

A sportscaster receently stated that if Street Sense, Curlin and Hard Spun all entered the Belmont, it would be the first time in history for the top 3 in the Derby AND Preakness to run in the Belmont.

This sent me scurrying for data. I seemed to recall, in my dim and sometimes useless memory, that Believe It ran third behind Affirmed and Alydar in the Derby and the Preakness. He did not place in the Belmont.. does anyone know if he ran in it? I apologize if it is a dumb question.. I came late to this game and I do not know where to find the answer.
So Run for the Roses, as fast as you can.....

Hi Madelyn,

Woody Stephens sat out the Belmont with Believe It - one of the few times he did sit out a Belmont Stakes. LOL!

The three to challenge Alydar and Affirmed were Noon Time Spender, Judge Advocate, and Darby Creek Road.

Here's a clip of the 1978 Belmont:
