Darley Purchases Breeding Rights to Authorized

Postby Worksoplad » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:25 am

"Vodafone Derby winner Authorized has been purchased by Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud operation.

The three-year-old was an impressive five-length winner of the Epsom Classic last week and Darley have been quick to snap up the Montjeu colt for an undisclosed sum.

"Authorized has been bought by Darley as a future stallion," read a statement on www.darley.co.uk.

"The horse has been leased back to the current owners Saleh Al Homaizi and Imad Al Sagar.

"He will continue to be trained by Peter Chapple-Hyam and managed for the owners by Mr Tony Nerses."

Authorized has won three of his four career starts and is now set to step back in trip to 10 furlongs for his next outing.

"The intention is that the horse will target the Coral-Eclipse Stakes on July 7," the statement added."

Darley seem intent on filling all of their stallion stalls and paddocks with Derby winners.

Nice plan if you can afford it! :D Although do Derby winners (on either side of the pond) tend to make the best stallions overall? :?:

Are mares going to have to start wearing Kaffiyehs around their heads in the future?

Authorized has a balance of 8 crosses of Phalaris and 8 NP, he will be a welcome edition to the stallion ranks, as his 8 crosses of NP will give soundness to his offspring, from those mares that are top heavy in Phalaris.

70% of Coolmore's stallions descend from Danehill, as those mares of the same breeding will not offer any outcross.
Those without sin cast the first stone.

This might sound naive, but how many crosses of Phalaris did Phalaris have?

Phalaris was inbred to Lord Clifden, who made only 12 starts in his career. Could the crosses to Lord Clifden be more detremental than the crosses to Phalaris himself?
