Ex Mountain Cop?

Postby gotpaints » Thu Jun 28, 2007 7:06 pm

Has anything heard anything about this horse? I watched him last year as a 2-year-old and was impressed with him and put him in my virtual stable but I haven't seen him work out in months. Does anyone know if he was retired or if he's injuried and scheduled to make a comeback?

He was sent from Portland Meadows down to Northern California, where he suffered a career-ending injury (sesamoid) during a workout.

Edit to add: Here is a bit from the DRF about it at the time:

Ex Mountain Cop, who won four straight stakes at the current Portland Meadows meeting before shipping to northern California late last year, was injured in a workout at Golden Gate and will be out of action indefinitely, according to trainer Jonathan Nance.

"He broke a sesamoid," said Nance, referring to one of two small bones located above and at the back of the fetlock joint. "I understand it was a bad break, and there is a question of whether he will be able to race again..."

"It is a real shame that he was hurt," said Nance. "He was very dominant in his division here, but the owners wanted to see what he could do in California."

That's horrible, he was a really promising regional colt.

He was the first horse to win the Oregon-bred $30,000 bonus by winning the OTOBA Sales S. and the Os West Oregon Futurity. My heart broke for Jonathan when it happened, he did a nice job with the horse.

I remember watching him run, I'm about 10 minutes from the Meadows.

Ex Mountain Cop went bad so soon after he got to CA, it makes you wonder if the damage was done before he arrived.

He had been out on the GGF track a few times before the injury, is my understanding. I don't know if a short rest after his PM campaign would have made a difference, or not. I suppose it's stuff like that his owners will always wonder about, I sure wouldn't want to have been in their shoes.
