Best race of the year?

Postby bdw0617 » Sat Jun 30, 2007 5:38 pm

???

I'm going to go with the Dubai World Cup. It's probably not going to be the popular choice, but I'm going off of how much anticipation I had to see a race. I couldn't sit still the entire morning waiting for the world cup card to come up. Horses that compete on THAT type of level and to have THAT type of race gets my blood boiling, and even though Discreet Cat had a not so discreet performance, Premium tap more than picked up the slack. That race put the stamp on Invasor as a great horse.

However the Pacific Classic today was a CLOSE second. that's what horse racing is about.

Best Races of The Year

Best races of the Year

Two races involved Curlin and two races involved Street Sense

Tampa Bay Derby
Preakness Stakes
Belmont Stakes

The Belmont Stakes would have to be the top race of the year as far as I am concerned.

I thought about the TB Derby.. but in hindsight he beat no one. NO one... if a stakes horse is in a duel with a claimer.. is it really a good race? not calling AGS a claimer but you get the point.

Breeders Cup Classic should be up there, but for me it's easily the Kentucky Derby. The most famous race in America. That will always be the race that people know and want to win.

Although the Belmont probably had the most historic significance and perhaps the most significance for the sport at large, I voted for the Preakness.

I've rarely seen a horse passed as convincingly as Curlin was and still refuse to lose, regardless of whether Street Sense 'hung' or not, most horses would not have tried to come back.

I have to say though, that we (and the sport) have been very fortunate in that many of the televised races of 2007 have shown the very best of what racing has to offer.
