Saratoga Special

Postby bdw0617 » Thu Aug 16, 2007 8:14 pm

I hate Kodiak Kowboy. I don't know. Maybe It's Posse. I never liked him either. Maybe it's ole Steive Boy and the fact this horse has no chance being around this time next year.

we are starting to get a feel for the 2YO crop... and I don't thik in the grand scheme of things, any of these horses will have much to say in it. Maybe the Roundhouse on the stretch out.. but then again... Circular Quay never stretched out so that's not a guarantee.

I can't agree with you on this one, BDW. I loved Kodiak Kowboy's race at Churchill and I liked his race today even better - Shaun Bridgmo waited 1/4 of a mile for room and Kodiak Kowboy exploded when a hole opened...I think he's got a pretty nice future ahead.

Posse lasted 18 races for Asmussen, so we know he was made out of steel - there's no reason to think that Kodiak Kowboy will disappear as fast as other babies in the past in the Asmussen butchershop.

everyone has thoose horses that for some unexplainable reason.. you just don't like. Everyone knows whoose rok's is.. I hate street sense. I hate everytime he wins people think he's good but he's not. And the funny thing about it is, I kNOW he's good. I hated bellamy road. I couldn't watch the Derby last year because I thought Brother Derek might actually win the damn thing. I hated the cliffs' edge because everyone was saying he was better than smarty jones.

Dude, I kind of feel the same way about Street Sense. It's hard to understand and explain. Funny that I also hated Bellamy Road, like Brother Derek and was completely indifferent to Smarty Jones.

Kodiak Kowboy is not worth getting excited about to me. I don't think he'll even be sound come next spring. And, if he is, he's not going to stretch out to classic distances.

I also doubt Kodiak Kowboy's ability to stretch out because it seems like 2 yr olds at this point are never anywhere to be found come spring. Last year was better than most years, with Circular Quay, Nobiz, and Scat Daddy sticking around. Not that they have made amazing 3 year olds, but they're at least around.

I agree with gut feelings about horses. I hated Smarty Jones. I have no idea why, but I couldn't stand him. I don't think I could've handled it if he'd won the Belmont and TC. I also hated Bernardini, although I was still pissed that retired him. I've also never been a Hard Spun fan, although these days I just feel sorry for him.

Let's see....horses I thought were phonies: Roman Ruler definitely tops the list.

Nothing says Kodiak Kowboy has to stretch out. Nothing wrong with a nice sprinter in the barn.

Kodiak Kowboy is the first real runner out of a Coronado's Quest mare. I always thought he could be an exceptional broodmare sire and hopefully this is just the start of things to come.

Coronado's Quest was out of his mind. No other trainer would have won the Travers with him that year.

Speaking of Travers......:-)

back before the days of me watching all the races I do now, I thought Roman Ruler was a KD lock as a 2YO

being in arkansas, I can't not like smarty jones. I'm not a hard spun fan...

you also have horses that for some, the unexplained reason, you LOVE.. to the point where you make unreasonable justifications on betting him.

Mine are Don't Get Mad, Showing Up, Tapit and this year it would have been, outside of Curlin, Air Commander

That gutless mutt? He was beating up on four horse nobody fields in California. I HATED him in the BC Juvie - and after that race, you knew there was NO WAY that he'd ever be a Derby horse.

Sure, there's nothing wrong with a nice sprinter in the barn. More trainers should realize some of these young horses are best sprinting and leave them doing that. Of course, the horse has to stay sound and in training in order to actually be the nice sprinter in the barn.
