So Anyway..........about a Van Nistelrooy filly.

Postby wilf » Fri Sep 07, 2007 8:47 pm

This year from January on was tough at home as my wife was being treated aggressively with chemo and radiation. At the time it was horrible but things worked out ok. Anyway she was working mornings for a close friend of ours Teresa Connelly of Endeavor Bloodstock at Starting Point Training Center near Ocala so I took over helping out to cover for her while training my own across the road. There were loads of youngsters being started and learning the ropes before going their separate ways when they were ready. One of these was a pretty athletic filly by Van Nistelrooy who oozed class and did everything right , she stood out and was very easy to like, a joy to see every morning throughout the spring. Eventually she went to a consignor at the sales and sold for about $105,000, we followed her progress like proud parents, just like we do with all of them I guess. Well a few days ago she ran in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, her name is Set Play and she made a lot of folks smile when she won it all. Keep an eye out for her................... By the way for anyone interested Ruud Van Nistelrooy is a world famous soccer player from Holland who made his name at Manchester United and now plays for Real Madrid. The son of Storm Cat with the same name was originally owned by Coolmore boss John Magnier who until recently was a major shareholder in Manchester United.

Yes, Wilf, continued good vibes headed your way. Van Nistelrooy is a fantastic looking horse and it's good to see one of his get run big.
Don't be so humble - you are not that great.

A tip we needed before the race, wilf!

Happy thoughts for your wife. Some days are better than others, I'm sure, but a fine winner with whom you were both connected with makes the day full of sunshine! My mother got colon cancer two years ago and is cancer-free now. My stepmother got breast cancer ten years ago, it went to Stage IV five years ago, and she is still living an active life with it. Sometimes the chemo and the resultant neuropathy are really tough, but it's worth it.

How True!!

It sounds like Mrs. Wilf is a strong and focused woman. Continued strength and good wishes to her.

Thanks for the "heads up" on Set Play. We'll be watching for her!
