i copied this from another forum.. too interesting not to post here.. all of hte past horses have been transated into current dollars with inflation and all:

Hi BDW,

It's an interesting list but a few problems.

Race purses have never been associated with inflation. The better marker would be to use the earnings compared to the year that they were earned average purses.

Also there seems to be some 'license' taken in these calculations. Cigar (foaled in 1990 and raced from 1993-1996) earned $7,599,813 and his 'new earnings have increased over 45% while Skip Away (foaled in 1993 and raced from 1995 to 1998) earned $9,616,360 and his 'new' earnings are down @1%.

Frankly, it's idiotic to have a standard like this. Stymie ran for $25,000 purses. What would Citation have won had there been a TC bonus in those days?
