another curlin post

Postby bdw0617 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 9:41 pm

I got to thinking.. with curlin and his 420 owners now, the legal issues that surround him, and now to boot the whole mcpeek issues surround this circus that is camp curlin, we dont' know if he is going to race next year, and we haven't even started talking about Dr. Juice I mean Steve Assumesen.

So I seroiusly, ask you the 70 million dollar question..

IS CURLIN WORTH ALL THE TROUBLE?

As a fan, i loved curlin. I went down guns blazing defending him for the kentucky derby and damn near cried after the haskell when I couldn't possibly fathom that he just wasnt' that good. Thank god I was right.

It would be pretty hard to suck the joy out of watching what many would say is one of the best hoses in this decade, easily in the top 5. but having 2 owners in jail, a trainer that knows more about drugs than anyone, having 420 new owners, pondering rather it's "in the breeds best interest to retire him or not" and to top it off, another side bicker battle between a wealthy trainer and a rich owner over more millions... they have pretty much down the unthinkable.. suck the life out of curlin.

I never thought he was going to retire. I don't think he has outran his pedigree yet, and I don't think he will get the deal that many are expecting. I still believe that. however, i"m to the point now, i dont' give a damn what he does anymore. just do SOMETHING. anything.. race woudl be nice,b ut I'm tired of all the legalitieis surrounding the horse. You pull up 15 curlin posts and 2 of them might have something ot do with his races?

I'm of the mind to just send him to stud so I dont' have to see him owners or his ex trainers name in the news all next year. i'm sick of it already.

Of COURSE he's worth the trouble. If he were YOUR horse, I'm pretty sure you'd think he was worth the trouble, even if he hadn't done such amazing things on the track... just because he was YOUR horse!

Regardless of what you or I or anyone else thinks, these are legal issues that will have to be resolved no matter what. Even if they DID "just send him to stud so (you) don't have to see his owners or his ex trainers names in the news all next year," he would still be in the midst of legalities that would have to be settled. Those legal issues won't just disappear if he goes to stud vs. stays racing. Lawsuits don't just disappear into thin air.

The Curlin situation is unfortunate, because he's a horse that deserves to be discussed due to his talent and merit as a racehorse, not the behavior of the people in his life. However, the media will always swarm onto the most "seedy" aspects of everything, and people will always be drawn in to read and discuss those aspects.

I, myself, was hoping that THIS Curlin thread would be about his accomplishments as a racehorse and his talent, not all the drama surrounding him. But, you've done exactly what you're complaining about and have proven by starting this thread exactly WHY that's not the case... that's simply not what the public wants to focus on. You, yourself, just started another Curlin thread that talks about the legal issues surrounding the horse... do you see the irony there?

I happen to agree with you that people focus too much on the people and legal issues surrounding the horse, and not enough on the talent and racing merit of the horse himself. I think that's a shame, but I'm sick to death of lawyers and legal drama anyway, so perhaps I'm biased there... no offense to the distinguished attorneys on this board...

I agree Rogue. I haven't even read most of this thread and don't really care about the legal issues... I just think.... What an impresive horse! He is good for the business because he IS coming back as a four year old. How rare is it to see a horse who is at the top of his game return with the intent of racing past a championship year. Maybe he he needs to ship and see if he likes Cushiontrack BEFORE BC time if he and Rags are still around or IF she makes it back.

When Curlin is in the post parade, does anyone even think about the ownership situation?

This is so blown out of proportion that's it's ridiculous. Because we now have 24/7 media and the internet, all that reporting time has to be filled up with something. That's why minor events become big news that get beaten to death with constant reporting. Does anyone really care that OJ Simpson is on trial for armed robbery? The media does - it helps to fill up airtime and space somehow. Same with Anna Nicole Smith, Robert Blake, Scott Peterson, and all the other garbage that the media forces down our throats.

Does anyone remember Robert Brennan and his Due Process Stable (aka ITB)? There was a (expletive) of the first order that robbed elderly people out of their retirement funds with his First Jersey Securities scams...thank God all that was 20 years ago. If he were around today with horses like Deputy Minister (whom he purchased as a 3 year old for $14 Million), his name would be coming out of your ears. Grrr!!!!

my point being, curlin if he races next year will race about 8 times.

His name, or his owners name will be on evey horse racing website at least once a week. when I see curlin I see a wonderful horse but I also see greed at it's peak.
