what's sad is it is not even major news anymore.
I think in the end, by this time next year, some circiut is going to be shut down, and horse racing will be better for it. too many tracks opening, no one is worried about trying to expand the pie. either NYRA, Maryland circuit.. one of the other... if I had to lay odds NYRA but maryland has magna in their corner and that accoutns for something

Yeah, I saw they cut two more stakes.
The battlelines are drawn for the slots fight coming next year. Our state comptroller is against slots, so he'll throw his weight around...in my opinion he needs to stay out of it and let the people decide.
In the meantime I will go to the races as much as I can...I'm thinking of buying some prints that celebrate Maryland's racing heritage.

please note, that you will not be deciding on if you want slots or not, but if you want RACING or not, because with Presque Isle, Mountineer, Charles Towns and Delaware having slots and Maryland doesn't, it won't last 6-8 more years.

I agree...and when racing revenue goes away and more taxes get dumped on us...there will be a great deal of griping...

geesh if MD goes down the tubes I am only guessing VA will be right there with it. Not that we have a thriving racing economy (though it could be if they had more than 3 freaking months of flat racing) but they sort of hold hands with MD. Dumb and Dumber I guess......
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while.
i can't wait for the anti-slots commercials...they will be over the top how gambling ruins lives, etc. etc. if slots are so bad, why do we have a lottery? i'm sure some fine folks in MD bet on the Ravens every Sunday. oh yeah, and playing the lottery subsidizes their stadium, relieving owners of the responsibility for paying for it....it is going to be interesting in 2008...
