Country Star

Postby wilf » Sun Dec 16, 2007 7:31 am

It's been a long while since I have seen a horse reaching for ground like that as she did in yesterday's Starlet Gr 1 victory, she could be something special. The second place filly ran very well too considering her long trip from the east coast. Set Play who I knew very well here in Ocala before she went through the sales seemed a little rank and has had a long year, hopefully she will get the rest she deserves as a Gr 1 winner herself.

country star is going to be a good one. she's trained by frankel, and frankel, at least to me is not known for cranking up 2YO's, so I think she can be scary good next year, which of course bid's well for empire maker

I saw her too and thought she was magnificent. I was joking with bdw about perhaps we'd see a couple of stars appear while we watched yesterday's races. Country Star - amazing. Zenyatta - also amazing, but she is three Country Star as a two year old - wow. Next year isn't going to be a snap for Indian Blessing.

Is it my imagination or have there been some very good young horses make their appearances in California late in the year this year?

It also could give a tiny boost to Metfield as a broodmare sire...

you do know that zenyatta tied the track record right?

also the "girls" d ivisions next year are going to be great. I'm not so sure wit a clean track and a better ride smarty deb isn't the best 2YO filly in the country. that Breeders cup was a total throw out. however empire maker is doing a great job as a "filly" sire so far. let's see if he can keep it up

I think as of now, every division out there pales in comparison to the Distaff division for next year. in SoCal ALONE you have (in theory at least) rags to riches, magnificance, nashoba's key, zanyetta, ginger pu nch, I don't know what's going on with hystericalady but I am assuming she's going to be back next year. man I'm looking forward to the La Canada

BDW, I don't know about you but young, good looking fillies sure make my heart pump just a little bit faster. And boy , do we have some fillies coming next year that will make any old horseman's heart beat a little bit faster. Can't wait until 2008!!!!

I think Country Star is the best two-year-old filly in America.

She and Indian Blessing have two Grade 1 wins, but a vote for Country Star as champion goes against the grain of those who feel the Breeders' Cup IS the championship.

Yet, I was so unimpreesed with how slowly Indian Blessing came home in her two Grade 1 wins. In both the Frizette and the BC, if anyone came running late, she was caught. She ran the final 5/16 in the BC in over 34 seconds, and the final time was slow on all speed figure services.

Just mulling this over...

WOW I like her looks and breeding as displayed in this database.
Keep my eye on her. Haven't seen the race yet.
Hoping to settle down with the DVR and a pack of Christmas cards tonight!

I'd have to give the nod to indian blessing. she has beaten better horses. I'm not that impressed with either of the fields that country star has beaten to be honest, and she beat one over polytrack at keeneland. in fact both her grade 1's are over synthitics. at least we know Empire maker takes to synthetic tracks.

Indian blessing won the frizette, a race that was loaded, and the Breeders Cup Juve Fillies race, which speaks for itself.. and it really wasn't close.

I agree with bdw, though, we haven't yet seen the best of Smarty Deb so we can't count her out either.

I'm also a big fan of Precious Kitten who seems to be improving, and of course Rags is supposed to be coming back (believe it when I see it).

I don't think she's coming back either. they are probably mulling over which of their stallions to send her to. I'd go with Sadler's Wells

Loaded with what??? I know the runner-up came back to finish third in the BC Juvenile Fillies, but the Frizette was not a strong field.

Isn't it the norm for the distaff group of races always full of extremely talented ladies? I know for years the distaff was always more competitive in the Breeders Cup.

As far as the ladies not getting the same attention, that seems to be the norm too. Everyone makes a big deal about the colts winning the Triple Crown, when Davona Dale won 2 filly tieras, no one made a big deal about it. She was awesome! Big good looking, good boned filly with tons of talent. No mention in any of the mainstream papers or magazines.

What a shame.

I was thinking the same thing about the Frizette being weak this year.

The second choice, Armonk, was a maiden and has since finished third in a maiden race at Aqueduct.

I don't know of any tigers in that Frizette field.
