A fine mare says goodbye with class

Postby Mahubah » Sat Jan 12, 2008 6:36 pm

Silmaril checked out in style today by winning the What a Summer Stakes at Laurel and topping off her bankroll over the $1 million mark. She's been an honest and consistent campaigner and will be missed as she heads for a new career as a broodie. May her new mate be worthy of her.

It's nice to hear of a happy story with a deserving horse retiring with a winning run and going sound into retirement. Thanks for sharing.

I was hoping Silmaril was going over the million mark today. I knew she was close. I've been watching her with interest as she is the daughter of now Oklahoma stud Diamond. I am expecting a Diamond foal in March from the mare Reigning Glory. After weaning, I get the foal. The mare is already sold. :D

I got home in time to watch the race on HRTV. I've seen Silmaril run at Laurel on a couple of occasions and she is a grand mare. When I saw her loop around the field, I knew she had it. Jeremy Rose said he was just as elated as when he won the Preakness and Belmont on Afleet Alex.

Best wishes Sil on your new career.

She'll be up in Harford County...no word yet on a mate.

What a nifty race mare Silmaril was. I had the pleasure of seeing her run several times in MD and DE. A true class act. I imagine she'll have her pick of a mate in the midAtlantic, and certainly KY. Goodbye and good luck as a mommy, Sil!

Did anyone notice Silmaril 's full sister (Another Jewel) won the race just before Silmaril's win. I wonder if thats ever happened.

We can surely hope some of big sis's class has rubbed off! This is one filly who will have a built-in fan club if she shows anything at all as a race mare.
