This again.

I suppose we should be used to this or at least not be shocked by this. Our recent experience should have us well prepared for this. It is POURING rain in Arcadia. Or rather it's a mix of rain and hail.
What does the future hold? more cancellations? More drainage issues? Time will soon tell.
Sunshine Millions, what are the chances of that running? It is to rain for the next week or so. If there is a cancellation of Sunshine Millions, it will be the sadest day in racing history that I have ever experienced, and something that has to have someone be accountable for this mess
I am sad that racing has come to this in Southern California. When will the axe drop? And who's head should roll?
when will some resolution for this mess be found?
How many people are financially effected by the apparent ineptness of management?
When do we as fans owners, trainers, backstretch workers, jocks, valets, the bugler, gate crew, gamblers, etc, rise up and say enough is enough?
We need racing to make money. We can't just keep going around in circles. People can't afford to keep horses in the barn and not run. There are so many lives that are dependant upon live racing. We need the percentage and some need to gamble to make a living.
IMO, someone needs to be removed from power and someone with a viable solution should step up and make the necessary changes that are fruitful and safe for for horse and human.

Yes, every year two weeks of bad weather, and this winter is extraordinary because of the large amount of rain. And you and I have this knowledge. How did it miss the brilliant minds driving this boat?

I think they're more worried about rain/thunderstorms, they've had lightning. Have you seen how BLACK the sky looks at times in the cam picture? Wow.

What about this...
Instead of jumping at the chance to run when the weather cancellations are over, stay in the barn. I know it's incredibly difficult because, for the most part, the cancellations already have you on a starvation diet. Nothing is getting done about the mess, and I don't see that changing through MEC management. Stop entering, and wait until the synthetic is taken up and replaced with dirt. It could be accomplished in very short order, but it will take spine.

I hear you. It's crazy. What I'd want to know was, who installed the track (both who had the authority to decide and what company laid it down), how extensively was it tested before being installed, and were the Santa Anita folks acting on complete and/or truthful info? BEFORE placing blame though, we need to see how to fix it.
As for "when" do all affected rise up and say enough is enough, it's probably past time in this case.

The funny thing is that this isn't even an artificial surface thing for me. It's the fact that they knew there was a significant problem, they've really had time to address it, and they took the cheap or easy or hopeful or just plain stupid route. I could have cared less if they had gone back to dirt or synthetic, just DO SOMETHING, anything.

Something has been done - they cancelled.

Maybe racing cancelled because the vendors ran out of Pepsi and hot dogs. If I blame the surface for the cancellation, I'd be twisting facts to fit an agenda.
