Mullins

rom Thoroughbred Times

The California Horse Racing Board has suspended trainer Jeff Mullins for a positive test of the Class 2 drug mepivacaine in one of his horses in July 2006.

The board adopted a proposal from administrative law judge David Rosenman to suspend Mullins for 90 days. The final 70 days will be stayed, provided that Mullins obeys all horse racing laws and CHRB regulations during a one-year probationary period.

The suspension period will begin on February 15.

Mullins was cited because Rob?s Coin exceeded the threshold level for the local anesthetic in a post-race urine analysis after a second-place finish in the seventh race at Hollywood Park on July 8, 2006. The horse was claimed out of the one-mile race for $40,000 by trainer Dan Hendricks for C. Patrick Milligan. Rob's Coin finished second.

Several other high-profile trainers have been cited for mepivacaine violations in recent years.

Todd Pletcher received a 45-day suspension and $3,000 fine for a mepivacaine violation at Saratoga Race Course from August 2004.

Pletcher's penalties were identical to those received by Richard Dutrow Jr. for a mepivacaine positive at Aqueduct in April 2003.

Steve Asmussen served a six-month suspension for a mepivacaine positive at Evangeline Downs from March 2006. Asmussen was fined $2,500.

I'm not defending any trainer or any positive, but I wonder if trainers carrying so many horses as opposed to the 40 they used to carry is partly to blame. A trainer can't watch over 100+ horses in training and be everywhere all the time. When trainers had only one barn full of horses, I think they were more aware of what was going on under the roof.

Well, that explains why this past year at Les Bois Rob's Coin couldn't beat the nags disguised as horses that run up here.

If memory serves correct, Didn't Mullens get tagged for milkshaking horses? I believe that after he was put under the microscope, his win % went right down the toilet for a while.

Yes, Mullins is one in the same, he should sit out his time, that's it.

2005, That would be about the right time fram when he was suspected of milk shaking his horses.

He trained Buzzards Bay who one the SA Derby in 2005.

I think that is around the same time he put his foot in his mouth about betters being idiots.

The other day I saw him on HRTV or TVG Someone needs to tell him that mullet hair styles are way out of style. Not that I ever thought they were a style.

Well, I tried to defend the good Mr Mullins, but nobody seems to agree. Go figure!

Shergar...criticizing a guy's haircut is low, even for us! LOL!

Mullins is given a reprieve on his sentence because he is training over 100 thoroughbreds that fills R A C E S. if he only trained a handful of horses they Would have socked it to him.

And that, Louis, is probably the most pressing reason to move away from huge barns, back to realistic, and fair, stall allotments.

see my post "i have an idea"....

horse racing itself will not police itself because it has it doesn't have horse racings best interst in their mind. it has their compaines best interest. it's in santa anita's best interest to have jeff mullins and his 100 horses at the track so they wont' do anything too serious. it's on US as a fan base to do something!!
