mott has another derby horse

Postby bdw0617 » Mon Feb 04, 2008 10:11 pm

I think roke said he had 4..someone did.. well after today at gulfstream you can add another, because Alaazo is a derby horse. Oh lookie, he's by Ap indy.. what a surprise  . As far as his running style he reminds me more of his daddy than any horse i've seen in a while. he didn't break a sweat today besides being next to a horse that broke though the gate.

anyway, mott is freaking loaded, and he might have just as many on the turf.

Billy Mott may not run anything in the Derby - when you mention the race to him, he gets hives.

This horse's dam was a very good runner and is a granddaughter of Courtly Dee. The win coming off a 5 month layoff is all the more inspiring, I believe he does have a future.

That was my bad BDW. I did forget about the 'other' AP Indy horse he has...Alaazo, in addition to the 4 that I mentioned....Majestic Warrior, Riley Tucker, Z-Humor, and Court Vision, if you want to be thorough...he also has Dynamalt, He's The Commander and Hyrule as nominee's. Two others, Muska and Prussian are not in training at the moment. He certainly is loaded and I'm sure if he will ever go to the Derby this will be this year:>) TJ

Hi DDT,
I read an interesting article about her. Seems Courtly Dee would wash out terribly when she went to the races so she was never able to show her true ability. For that reason Courtly Dee found her way to the claiming ranks and was claimed from Bud Lepman for 15,000 by Lee Eaton. Courtly Dee was later sold to Groves, Alexander and Ackroyd in foal to Alydar for $900,000. The foal was to be Althea, the 1983 2YO filly Champion. Althea being just one of the 8 stakes winners Courtly Dee produced, 7 being graded stakes winners.
She was a remarkable producer as were 9 of her 11 daughters who all went on to produce stakes winners. One of those daughters you mentioned, Aishah who produced Alaazo's stakes winning dam Atelier. I guess after reviewing this pedigree I was terribly amiss not to have mentioned Alaazo. TJ

Alaazo's maiden win at Monmouth last year was very impressive.

Not sure how fast that race was yesterday (it looked slow), but you gotta like the wide trip and the re-rally for the easy win at nine furlongs.

it was slow... well not court vision slow but not blazing either.. 1:51 and 3 I think. defiantly 1:51 something. but wasn't really exerted and he was wide.

Festival of Light (SW), Altesse (SW), Aztec Peak (SP) and Alchemist (SP) are four A.P. Indy's that resulted from a cross with this family. In addition, Rags To Riches has the A.P. Indy/Deputy Minister cross, so it looks like the blood is there.

Hi DDT,
That is a potent family if I ever saw one. Deputy Minister isn't to shabby in his own right, having sired Curlin and Rag's to Riches dam. TJ

It is no wonder that two time leading sire Deputy Minister is doing very good as a broodmare sire, his third dam Grass Shack is a half sister to Exclusive and the number of stakes winners and champions in this female family is too numerous to type. His name will be around for a long time.

Deputy Minister

Deputy Minister is the dam of three great mares

1. Go For Wand

2. Open Mind

3. Better Than Honour- dam of Rags to Riches and Jazil

Deputy Minister is also the sire of Awesome Again the sire of Ghostzapper.

Speaking of Grass Shack she is also the 3rd dam of Charismatic.

Sheriff's Deputy finally got her shot to produce being bred to Smart Strike

who is far better than Excellent Secret, Wild Zone, or Hadif whom Curlin's siblings are by.

I think you could add Grade 1 winners Clear Mandate and Keeper Hill to the list of mares, and maybe even Well Chosen.

Deputy Commander and Touch Gold, two additional colts that could both run a little.
