Little rule refresher:
The object of the game is to pick horses that finish up the track. The better your horses do, the more humiliated you will be on the scoresheet.
(1) Contestants must eliminate 10 Derby starters from contention, regardless of final field size.
(2) You MUST also name a first alternate throwout, a second alternate throwout, and a third alternate throwout.
(3) All 10 of your throwout horses and all three of your alternates MUST come from the field as comprised after the post position draw.
(4) Post your entry (just once -- no adjustments, reconsiderations, or amendments) to this thread no later than 3 am Eastern time Saturday.
(5) State your 10 tossouts, your first alternate, your second alternate, your third alternate. Save any additional remarks (optional, including the swearing
(6) If one of your 10 tossers is scratched (before Saturday, or on raceday itself), your first alternate will be substituted, and so on. If more than three of your throwouts are scratched, that is your good luck.
(7) If one of your contenders is scratched, that is your bad luck. So you might wish to wait until Friday before posting your one and only contest entry.
(8 ) If one of your throwout horses wins the Derby, you will be assessed 15 points. It's 10 points for place, 8 points for show, 6 points for running fourth, 4 points for finishing fifth, and 2 points for beating all but five horses. A perfect score is zero -- unless, of course, the field dwindles to 15, in which case a perfect score would be 2.
(9) I will post a summary of throwouts Saturday morning, in plenty of time for anyone who wishes to take the list to the track and bet on them
(10) By Sunday morning I will post complete annotated contest results.
(11) A dead heat, and a split purse, is possible.
(12) Except there is no purse.
Let the games begin.
pssst.... Rogue, can I get a sticky?
