they're also my favorite track as far as looks and layout go. Lobe the paddock. Nice oval with good sightlines unlike Belmont's lopsided one . . .

hi bdw0617...hi Toccet02

Yes it's pretty...but there are some outstanding (and very pretty, and exceptionally well-maintained) turf courses in North America. I might suggest that a strong argument could be made that the turf courses in SoCal (Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar) take a backseat to none. On the east coast...the turf course at Gulfstream Park (southeast coast in this case) looks the part too (and is beautifully groomed/maintained).

Saratoga too is pretty...pretty...pretty, don't ya think?

To each his/her own...but (from my perspective), CD leans toward having a somewhat sterile, corporate feel about it. Not that that's all bad...but just what I feel.

As for Belmont Park...when I think about the gigaaaaaantic grandstand there, two words that come to mind are function and engineering. The Belmont Park grandstand is HUGE (maybe an understatement), and was likely (and might still be considered) an engineering masterpiece...but (if looks matter) it ain't pretty.

Arguably the BP grandstand has more the look of a dark, antiquated, monstrosity of a steel structure...than a beautiful, modern, 21st century horseracing facility extraordinaire. Regardless my impressions of the grandstand at BP (and concerns about the health of racing in NY, and elsewhere for that matter); when I think Belmont Park horseracing, I think about GREEEEEEEAT horses/champions that raced there, GREAT races that unfolded there, GREAT rivalries that were tested there...plus the fact that it's the one and ONLY racetrack in north America where a winner of both the Ky Derby and Preakness has the rarest of rare opportunities; a chance at becoming a triple crown winner. WOW...what a GIANT history, and it's still unfolding.

That said...when I think looks(your word Toccet02) in a picturesque setting...Santa Anita comes mind. When it comes to ambience and charm...Saratoga is hard to beat.

Best.

Respectfully
