Postby halfbridled » Tue May 06, 2008 12:06 pm

Ordered drug testing on Eight Belles as part of the autopsy:

Larry Jones said the tests for performance-enhancing drugs will come back negative on Eight Belles, who was euthanized after breaking both front ankles Saturday.

"I guarantee there were no steroids ever on the horse,'' Jones said at a news conference at Delaware Park, site of the filly's first win.

I don't' think anyone is implying that she was drugged. at least I wasn't. I have implied however, that maybe running from the fantasy, a 4 horse race against fillies, then going to the kentucky derby with 19 other males at a distance she had never run before, might be a little too much.

Unfortunately, that test hasn't been made yet.

I was wondering who he was talking about when he said this:
"We're taking a lot of abuse out there. ... We're being accused of steroid abuse because she was so large,'' he said.

So far I had not heard any mention of Eight Belles and steroids?

jones doesnt' strike me as a steriod user. plus I don't think one would take the chance of steroids with a broodmare prospect like that one, could cause her to be infertile can't it?

someone on this board said something to the effect that "Jones is known to have a heavy hand with the steroids". It is probably to dispell rumors like that that he's mentioned the testing.

I totally think most of that talk stems from the size of EB. Huge girl she was. That being said I would have been more reluctant myself to run her. Seems like the bigger babies need more time.

Good for hom though because you know if he doesn't PETA or some other person will be out there screeching cover up. Smart man, avoid unnecessary conflict.
trying to come up with something brillant..... this may take a while. :)
