Zito vs Dutrow

Postby el camino » Sat Jun 07, 2008 6:04 pm

Zito- class in victory, Dutrow no class in defeat. I had no problem with Dutrow and his shameless arrogance prior to the race but if your are going to act that way you need to deal with the loss. (if you can't walk the the walk...) Turning your sweaty back to the camera and saying no comment doesn't cut it. Bafferet always talked to the press. You can't have it both ways, it makes you look like an ass.

Oh, man I ABSOLUTELY agree!!

He should have had enough class to walk the walk and face the media after spouting off for 2 months.

He truly looked very, very bad. However, true character shines through in times of stress...........

Ditto Pokey--if you're going to take all the credit, you gotta take the blame as well!

So question...
Has anyone assasinated Zito yet? Didn't RD say that if BBwent down to defeat there was danger for the winner.... I thought not..

They probably don't know where to start. I mean BB finished last. There's what, 8 other horses (since they probably don't count Casino Drive) and a lot of people in West Point Thoroughbreds. Maybe everybody went in a different direction and eluded the "assassins."

In the 2005 Derby zito had 5 starters including heavily favored Bellamy road. After they all collapsed and not one hit the board Mike Battaglia of NBC put a camera on him and started with the questions 30 seconds after they crossed the wire.

He did not turn or scurry for the exits. He stood there and made no excuses saying he was just greatful for just being in Derby. All the while choking on his words and fighting back he tears from the shock of what had just happened.

Who was the first person he thanked in the winners circle? Zito is a very respectable horseman.

Remember that Dutrow's horse had just been eased. Could be he was concerned about why?
You know on the way over to the paddock, he was really uptight, unfriendly toward the guy with the mike in his face, and washing out. Didn't look at all like the same guy he has been through this entire experience. Wonder what was up.

I very much dislike Dutrow, but not enough to accuse him of something unreasonable.

The papparatzi (sp.?) are like vultures. Dutrow needed to check the horse and all that before talking to the vultures. I do not fault him for this.

Besides, pinning *everything that's wrong with the American racing system" (which is a lot) on Dutrow doesn't cut it.

He's only an example, held up to the light because, let's face it, he's like an open book. :) He is not *the* problem, he is just one of the symptoms.

I guess I'm the kind of person who believes in dealing with the elephant in the room, instead of commenting about the wrinkles on the elephant. The latter will solve nothing.

Dutrow isn't the problem. Big Brown isn't the problem. They are just asterisks on the schematic/blueprint of the problem.

Time to drill down to the blueprint, and start fixing the infrastructure. Otherwise, the bridge collapses, and all the engineers are in on it.

Like I posted on another thread, he could have faced the music if he wants to be such a blow hard.

I hate to double post but I honestly think he could have faced the media and said, " We don't know what happened. Our horse just didn't show up. We are shocked and disappointed. Please let me go check my horse and I would be happy to speak to you later this evening".

Is it THAT hard to show some class??

I believe even Eight Belles trainer issued an immediate statement when asked by the media.

It just looks bad and in a National spotlight like the triple crown races little things go a long way with the public.

I'm sure that Dutrow's first priority was to race back to the test barn and see the horse, but I don't know how he could lean on that board thirty feet away from the horde of media for so long. Better to get it over with, I would think. They did say on SportsCenter that "at least he came out and talked to the press for 30 minutes and took it like a man," so I guess he did stand up at some point.

I'm always glad to see Zito win, for all he and Kim have done for horse retirement. Years ago, I traveled to Florida and went to the old Gulfstream for the day, which was really a treat for me. It was raining but I didn't care, because it was so great to see the Garden of Champions and all that. It was January, and I saw all of the top trainers' names in the program, and was looking forward to seeing them all in person. But guess what? It was a Monday or a Tuesday, as I recall, and it was raining, and all that showed up was assistant trainers to saddle--except for Nick, who came out to saddle a maiden claimer. I was impressed.

Your 1-5 favorite just got pulled up from trying to make history!! You have no clue as to why???? You have been with this horse 24/7 for 3 months!!! And you all have the audacity to judge and condemn a man for being upset and concerned about WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!

Some of you really disappoint me!!!! Obviously you don't own racehorses , had one breakdown or be pulled up in a race. Well I have!!! At that point I didn't care about who won or who was there. All I cared about was the condition of my horse!!!! Obviously you judgemental a_ _holes should keep your thoughts to yourself because for the ones of us that have been close to RD's situation know how he and the connections feel!!!! Zito certainly deserves praise but so does RD for handling it better than a lot of people I know!!! JMO

Dutrow's response to a request for an interview from steve cyphress was not that he was concerned about his horse. It was simply he was not going to answer anything.

Dutrow is not a vet. He has stated he has "no clue" what steroids does. The horse was cleared by two state vets and Mr. Bramlage before it left the track

To take 10 seconds to day the horse appears ok at this point or i even i dont know what happened is not unreasonable.

I wathced the race with 6 people who are casual fans only watch racing this time of year on tv. They do not wait around for listen to interviews 6 hours later. His behavior was classless.
