What is with this guy? ESPN interviews him, and he's hanging out the dirty laundry again. I can totally understand that he was upset with Dutrow about finding out about his clenbuterol positive from the media. Dutrow should have called him and warned him it was coming. But once again he tells the story that he threatened Dutrow with taking the horse away. How many times can you threaten a guy through the media?
Then ESPN goes back live to Dutrow and asked him if Iavarone told him he was taking the horse away. Dutrow replies, "Not lately." Well, I think that was a true statement, because the interview with Iavarone was clearly talking about Dutrow's KY positive that occurred several weeks ago. But the reporter persists and tries to clarify, and then Dutrow denies that Iavarone ever told him he was taking the horse out. I think that was clearly a little prevarication. This should not be discussed in public through a reporter! Just talk to each other and make up or break up!
Also, I cannot understand why the connections haven't talked about this sprung shoe issue. When they took him back to the test barn after the Belmont, they obviously would have noticed the sprung shoe. And it might (not for sure, but might) have been the reason why Big Brown chucked it. It certainly could have been the reason why Meaux pulled him up. His stride would have been funny. You'd think they would have sung that to the heavens right after they came out of the test barn. Why was there silence about it until the Bloodhorse photo? Weird!

Iavarone is as horrible as Dutrow, maybe worse. Keep in mind he's already been through one trainer prior to Dutrow and knew nothing about horses being drugged. Dumped him to take the rap and moved on to Dutrow. If Iavarone and crew feel the need to leave Dutrow holding the bag and move on the next time one of their horses comes back with a bad test, they'll have no problem finding another trainer who isn't afraid to try to "cut corners." Probably somebody quieter than Dutrow so IEAH can continue to blow smoke about how clean they are.
If BB lost the Belmont because of a loose shoe, that might be a FIRST. If Desormeaux pulled him up because he knew he had a loose shoe, that IS a FIRST. The reason nobody is talking about it is they prefer not to have everyone snickering at them.

My first thought was that Jeanine Edwards is my hero. Seriously it was a bit vulgar to watch that kind of private discussion had through a reporter, I agree, but I was so in awe of her pressing the issue in a way normally nobody would that I just sat there with a big stupid grin on my face saying 'oh no she di'n't!' A bit like my reaction to Harry Aleo after he was asked to compare owning Lost in the Fog to the "Battle of the g** d*** Bulge."
I think some of this is real anger by Iavarone and some is anger that it spoiled his Smokescreen of Sans-Drug-Cleanliness. I mean really wouldn't you be mad if you'd made this big stink about running clean and then your trainer goes and has a positive? Wouldn't you also be angry when you really weren't running clean to begin with, just hiding it better, and your trainer had to go and spoil the illusion? I wish "Ivy" would quit playing around with public perception, he's losing the game. We all know both IAEH and Dutrow are far from spotless and the odds of them losing that perception are slim to none. If he really wanted to convince us he's trying to go clean with his horses, he'd have a different trainer, period. I'm sure someone will want to defend the 'hiding it better' thing or buys what Ivy's selling but I'd like to sell them a sandbox in Florida or a bridge in Brooklyn while they're on this shopping spree.

Dutrow
I remember watching ESPN at 8:30am PSt the friday before the Preakness and he told the press that Big Brown had his steriod in the begining of May- and that would mean at the preakness he would still be on Steriods. Then at the Belmont he told the press that Big Brown has been off the drugs since the Derby - Listen Butt Head it take A LONG TIME for steriods to leave the body- and I also remember Dutrow telling the press the " Doesn't know what the drugs do to the horses, but it helps with the appetite" - WHAT! What kind of trainer doesnt know what drugs do what to his horses.

I don't think that they simply yanked Big Brown off of steroids in one month. I assume they weaned him off of it over the course of a few months. There is an article and photos in the Thoroughbred Times this week showing the effects of abrupt removal. I seriously doubt that Big Brown's vet would risk that effect by going cold turkey. I think the decision was made a while ago, and he was eased off.
Dutrow does cultivate that "Shucks, I don't know anything" persona. I've heard him say that he doesn't know what owners aren't paying their bill. PLEASE! He knows that for sure. I'm sure that Dutrow can't tell you the metabolic path for Winstrol, but he damned sure knows that positive effects that it had on his win percentage.
