Any Interesting Toccets?

Postby Heidilady » Thu Nov 20, 2008 7:29 pm

Ventana is running for Baffert in the Hollywood Prevue against Azul Leon and Backbackbackgone (heaven help us if that one does well and we have to say that name a lot). In a Bloodhorse article about the aforementioned BBBG, this was said about Ventana:

Bob Baffert, who has won the Prevue a record four times, is represented by Ventana. The Toccet colt finished fourth with a wide trip in the six-furlong Goodman after shipping from New York a week earlier. That followed a last-place effort in the Champagne (gr. I) Oct. 4. Mike Smith becomes the bay's fourth rider in as many starts.

It got me to thinking, I enjoyed Toccet and he was a nice lil guy. Doesn't sound like Ventana's setting the house on fire but who knows, he sounds new. Maybe he thinks it's still practice. Have any Toccets interested anybody? I was kinda hoping you'd have heard from some more of them by now.

There are also some 2YO claimers that at least are winning/placing and racing often. Sister Kathleen for one. But he has no "stars", that's for sure

I have been disappointed too . . .even though HE was a precocious 2YO, maybe his get are going to be late-maturing?
Anyone know of a case like that?

"Stars" notwithstanding, there is something to be said for tough little horses that just go out there and win.

According to Steve Haskin, Toccet is about to get his first star, Dubinsky. He tops Steve Haskin's list of maidens on the Kentucky Derby trail:

"Well-bred son of Toccet, whose maternal great grandsires are rivals Alysheba and Forty Niner, he was a fast-closing second in his debut at Aqueduct going six furlongs in the slop, and is due to show up again this Saturday. Stablemate of the aforementioned Well Positioned, and the two horses took turns beating each other in works. This is another Pat Reynolds – Paul Pompa colt who has a bright future. You can get him at any price. That might not be the case after Saturday."

Argh. She scratched out of today's starter allowance at Aqueduct.
Once again, anyone know why??

I guess she's fine--scheduled to run again at Big A tomorrow. If they HAVE a card.
POURING, windy and cold right now.

She also made Toccet's sire performance description in the Keeneland catalogue pages for Jan 09! :D

Damn. Sister Kathleen trailed throughout, 8th of 8 (and still made $306)
Maybe she is a little sore or ill , or she didn't handle the step up to NYC allowance OC NW1X company.

She probably just didn't like the track. With all our rain, it must still be a mess.
