Nicanor Wins.

Postby Shawklit Won » Wed May 13, 2009 1:09 pm

Nicanor won easily today by more than 15 lengths, wire to wire. Looks like he might be a real good one. Can't wait to see when and where he will be racing next.

I've said it in the past here and elsewhere, but I always thought Nicky would relish the grass and he clearly showed it. :D

Grass, equipment change, and much softer competition. This should be a good confidence builder for him. Might make a useful turf horse.

Much softer competition and though he won by a big margin, the time was not as sensational as it looked.

He might not be fast but turf racing is not known to be barnburning. It was nice to see him win.

The best part for me wasn't that he won, it's that he was loving every minute of it, ears pricked and totally having himself a ball out there. I really like it when a horse races like that and comes home with a win.

It was an easy win for Nicanor. If he was pushed a little, he may have knocked a second or two off of his time.

His trainer found a soft spot for him, yet it was a MSW with a good purse (almost $40,000). Trainers try to find the easiest spots possible for their horses and still race at the highest levels that they are capable of. I would say that it was a good job done all the way around.

.

It was the first turf race of the year over the course, and the East has been very wet lately. If it was So Cal in July I would be a little worried about the final time.

Yes. I just read someplace that someone at Delaware Park said that the turf track is slow at the beginning of the meet.

The Nicanor race time is still the fastest at a mile or 1 1/16 mi. so far this year, and that includes a couple of allowance races.

I really think that Nicanor is going to be a very good racehorse. I can't wait until his next race.

A New York Times article said that trainer Matz did not rule out a stakes race for Nicanor's next start, but might possibly have Nicanor's next start be an allowance race on turf on the 17th of June at Delaware Park. After that, maybe the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs on the 19th of July.

Should be interesting.
