Wasn't he a trainer for Prince Salman between retirements?

Are we talking about the Gary Stevens that works for HRTV and is a consultant for IEAH?

He might have worn that hat, but nominally he was an assistant to Alex Hassinger.

i went to visit gary this morn, his son & daughter were both there, as grooms. gary has 2 tbs & 2 more on the way.
gary is stabled in Westley Wards barn, just west of the gap. His webbing is green & white, nice to see new people on the backsretch.

I hope the new owners will fix up the back side , as it is in a run down condition. All the best Gary, Louis.

Why on earth would he want all that aggravation? He seemed so happy on tv, oh well I guess he was urged on by some big owner and his experience is not in question.

Wilf, he plans on continuing his HRTV/NBC duties. He has his son working for him. He feels with his son with him he'll be able to handle all and closely monitor his barn when away. He does not want to train more than 25 head.

John Sadler & Doug O' Niel have over 100 tb in training, how can both of those trainers keep track of every tb? It's almost impossible, for one trainer to remember every detail of each tb.

Gary will be more comfortable 25 tb, as each one of those tb will not be just a number.

Funny thing, I went to Turf Paradise in December 1993 and they were full so they put my horses in these temporary cage stalls. I didn't mind as I was glad to be out of the northern winter, however within a few weeks I was given stalls vacated by Gary's father Ron.I guess his horses were sore and he went back to Idaho to lay up.

If you have a good crew and trust your assistant you can be gone for TV work. I was Charlsie Cantey's assistant at Laurel and we did very well.

While she was gone it's as if she never left, the barn continued on because I knew how she liked things done. Won alot of races while she was on the road and when she came back she took over and we won races.

I met Ron Stevens when he was at Santa Anita a few years ago, Ron is built like a NFL full Back, his wife is on the tall side, Gary & his brother Scott resemble their mother. Their family is dyed in the wool tbs, thats why Gary wants to train, its all in the family.

Actually, they all started in quarter horses, as did gary. In fact he won his first race on a quarter horse at Laurel Brown Park in Utah of all places. He was about 15 or 16 years old.
