wont' cost 1 penny.
1. Why not move the feature race to the LAST race of the day instead of the next to last? What incentive besides being alive in the pick 6 or pick 3 or late double do I have to stick around for the last race? I have seen my dad, be alive in a a pick 4 before and leave after the feature race.. hell he knew he was coming back next week, it's not like they wouldn't take the ticket then.
by moving the feature race to the last race, everyone waiting for the big race has to wait through all the races
2. Actually start races AT post time. nothing drives me from a track faster than a track being 30 mintues behind schedule and F'ing my entire betting schedule up. if it's a busy day like a saturday and I have say, 10 races I want to look at at 4 different tracks, I put my card together and then I make my day schedule around that. I might go grab a bite to eat when I have 45 mintues free time, etc. I've actually gone to the gym between races wehNI have enough time. do that quite often actually.
When I tune into yout rack, and see that you are 50 freaking mintues behind shedule and I have no idea when your NEW post time will be I don' bother. I just delete the bet and do what i was going to do that day anyway. It's not worth the time or effort.
You don't go to best buy at 9:00 when they open and they say "well.. we arne't open yet... and we don't know exactly when we are going to open. .just stay here until we do".
3. Be a realist and realize that your track is not the only track that most people are playing and stagger post times.
Why the big tracks don't get together and stagger their post times every 5 minutes, I have no idea. they would all make more money. the only time anyone does any resemblance oft his is the triple crown. no one in hell is going to post a race while people are betting on the derby, it's a lost cause.
4. Get the damn equipment changes right. this is important crap. Nothing is worse than tossing a horse that you know is lone speed but you don't hink he can make it, only to find out in the post parade he does have blinkers even though the program says he doesn't. thanks guys.
5. make a half ass attempt to get creditable entry information. today there is a race in NY, where Ramon D and Kent D are BOTH RIDING 2 HORSES. YOU HAVE TO BE FREAKING KIDDING ME. you know what i did? i tossed the race. I'm not even going to bother wasting myt ime attempting to handicap a race that they dont' care enough about to put forth half ass credible information on. I know both are enteries but that is no excuse. there should be a rule that you can't make what is called an imnpossible entry. unless NYRA has a clone machine, that is not possible for 2 guys to ride 4 horses.
4 things. costs no money.

Everywhere the mainstay event on any raceday is fixed as the 2nd or 3rd last...I guess most people would want to get out of
the car park ahead of the crowd ...If you place it on the last race, the track will lose a lot of income from these savvy drivers.
Regarding (#4) some horses only had a blinker on after the race, guess those were the winners which felt guilty after they won.

i know exactly the logi behind it, I'm not saying there isn't a reason they do it.
i'm saying that every decsion should be made to cater to the bettor. a 10 horse field with 8 jockies in it does nothing but confuse the bettor and make me look for a race wtih less variebies to handicap.
it's that logic why horseman are pleading with the govermet to pass slots now. nothing is done with the bettor in mind.
horse tracks are in compitition with each other. Am I going to handicap the ace with 10 horses and 8 jockies or go acrss the country by via internet and handicap the nice, neat 8 horse card wiwth easy to understand conditions.
If you cannot have 2 seperate jockies listed at the time of entry, you don' tneed to run as an entry.
there is no "deciding to scratch" if you have 2 horses and 1 jock. you damn well know you are scrathing a horse. you probably damn well know which one.
another thing, i've been at this fo a while (in correlation to how old I am).
what about the guy who is the track with the first time and is asking the person at the window how to read the entry sheet? (those people are so cute to me). what do you think he is going to do when he sees 10 horses and 8 jockies? throw his hands up and say forget it. that's what. I've seen it first hand. As crystal would say, that is what we suck.

I will give you another example of the scrwed upness.
there is a race, actually, it's nicacnor's next race on my birthday (june 17th)
I saw the entry list.. D. Cohen is listed as the jockey on 2 horses, one is a MTO horse and 1 is a Turf horse.
not a coupled enry.
so...what if the race comes off the turf?

Turf horse will likely scratch. Or, if both go, one will name a new jock. Happens all the time, and you can use it to your advantage if you pay attention. There's nothing like a positive late rider switch to help a horse go under the radar. It can provide you, the bettor, extra value, if you pay attention.
