Good weekend in Europe

Postby Mahubah » Sat Sep 12, 2009 6:42 am

Some major Euro races going this weekend -- two major stayers' showcases, the St. Leger and Irish St. Leger, the important National Stakes for juveniles, and the Prix Vermeille in France, featuring the return of the brilliant Stacelita. Can the ageless Yeats do it yet again in a major distance prize? And is Stacelita this year's Zarkava? Lots of interesting stuff here.

No joy for Yeats today, alas -- he ran dead last in the Irish St. Leger.

That's a shame... I really like him, although I admit I don't follow international racing as well as I should.

When does Stacelita run?

She runs tonight the mighty filly, we have a Last Tycoon mare called Sun River who is a close relation, wish there were some Monsun sons down here.

Yeats will probably have one more run in the Cadran, before he heads off to Coolmore's National Hunt arm for duty. He has been a great old battler

Yeats needs an good to fast track so why on earth sending him out on a yielding/heavy ground.

He did not deserve this at all, after his achievements for the coolmore team.

They should have been racing him in Doncaster instead were the ground was fast.

Probably right, but the Doncaster Cup is a G3 and has a smaller purse. And, alas, you are all too right as to where he'll be at stud -- no respect for stamina-oriented types I can't think of a top Cup horse to lead the English sire list since Alycidon.

This is such a shame, this horse doesn't deserve it.
