here we go again: http://www.drf.com/news/article/108047.html

i heard a while back that a group of horsemen were going to bid on one or both of these tracks. hopefully, someone with a clue and half a brain, will end up as new owners.

I have since moved to Virginia, but I do hope someone with some (horse) sense buys the tracks in Maryland and does well with them.

Boy, what a mess. Delmar, Pimlico, Laurel, the St. Louis Rams are on the auction block. I know the players are up in arms about Rush Limbaugh wanting to be owner. Wonder what would happen if he bought a few tracks? Horseracing could sure the $$$$.

Barbaro06, how do you like VA? I guess if you think about it area of the beltway is just like another. Annapolis is probably an exception to that.

Shammy, so far so good. I chatted with some folks who live down the road a ways and they are happy to see the development taking shape. A few people got foreclosed on, but they were in over their heads with the homes they purchased. The neighborhood, according to the couple I was talking to, has become a lot better. More professionals moving in.

Living in the I-95 corridor is indeed different. Annapolis is becoming more like any other beltway town--high rise condos in a "town center," overpriced high rise apartments, houses average people really can't afford. Annapolis lost a bit of its charm with the new town center. many people were unhappy that it was built, especially with the mall's expansion.

I do like being able to drive into the country--more rolling hills than ever--hopefully they won't pave all of it over here in Virginia.

I remember picking up a horse some years back in Western MD and I drove up Rt 10 through hunt country. It looked like the beltway was closing in then. I know Charles Town is growing by leaps and bonds. If you get claustrophobic keep moving south.

I lived in Middleburg for 20 years. Loved the place. Great people, even the rich, which I wasn't/am not. Still have a ton of friends there.

I'm going to poke around Doswell when I get the chance...check out the "Meadow Event Area" and see if I can get pix of Secretariat's foaling barn.
