Monmouth claiming rules

Postby Blue feather » Fri May 21, 2010 4:55 am

Being a "Small Owner", I believe the inflated Monmouth purses presents opportunities at surrounding Mid Atlantic tracks. First , drawing superior talent. Secondly, some terrific value at the claiming level. I would be curious if the claiming rules have been altered due to restructered purses.

Somebody may want to check me on this as I'm not sure exactly when the rule went into effect. But let's just say you have a 2 yr. old by a N. J. stallion but foaled in, though not limited to, Pa. for example. Under the N. J. dual registration provision you're feeling pretty good right now I imagine.
Regarding the claiming rules : Rule 13:70-12.1 states " Owners who possess a current N. J. owners license will be permitted to claim horses prior to starting a horse at the race meeting. All other provisions of the claiming rules remain in effect ".
However ; rule 13:70-12.5 states " A claimed horse shall not race elsewhere until after the close of the meeting at which it was claimed... "
The 1st. sounds pretty much plain vanilla. I honestly don't know if the 2nd. wording has been " tweaked " or not but it doesn't appear to me that there have been any alterations unless I'm missing something.

For a period of 20 days after the claim, any claimed horse shall not race for a claiming price of less than 25% more than the price for which it was claimed.
