mine that bird in the firecracker

Postby bdw0617 » Sat Jul 03, 2010 8:33 am

Enters his Kentucky derby winning gelding mine that bird in the firecracker, a Turf race, on the last day at churchill downs.

Turf? really? never-mind that mtb has proven he hates synthetics and is not a graded stakes winning caliber horse over them. and never mind the fact that birdstone is not the top 150 turf sires in the country

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/ ... lists/turf

budda is in the top 150 for crying out loud.

and watch he will go off at pretty close to the fav.

It is what it is.
The horse doesn't impress me much... OR the horse in Chip Wooley's hands doesn't impress me much.. I guess time will tell which it is..

I was just making a correction, in reality the horses form suggests that he indeed likes and wins on synthetic surfaces more often than dirt. Just sayin.

take the 7 to 1 you are getting on inca king and run to the window. that might be the biggest overlay i've seen all year

the only negative is that he doesn't have julien on his back but julian is in Arlington riding informed decision.

MTB didn't look comfortable on the grass right from the break, IMO. I don't think they'll race him on the grass again, or going that short. :P

Maybe he's better on softer turf?

mtb will not win 1 race with D wayne as his trainer.

the same trainer who has had 2 horses pulled up int he last 3 days and is 2 for like 60 on the meet.

Cant believe they are even considering the Whitney for this horse. This horse couldnt win an Allowance race. They better scratch the Whitney and find an easier spot.

I feel badly for the little horse ,what a stupid spot for him to start back in. Unless he gets an allowance field in the mud somewhere I don't see him having any luck. Pity as he had a lot of fun in the Derby and ran big against Rachel in the Preakness . Hoping the best for him anyway!

At first glance entering Mine That Bird in the Firecracker looks like a fools move, but the truth is, sometimes you get stuck between a rock and a hard place when trying to find a prep for a horse like him. Which is exactly what happened to Lukas.....he entered Mine That Bird in a 1 1/16th Allowance race on the dirt that didn't fill on Wednesday, June 30th. His objective is the Whitney at Saratoga, so when that Allowance race didn't fill they dropped him in the Firecracker. In this way he gets his needed prep albeit over an unfamiliar surface. (In my experience, this move, first turf and back to dirt, many times does wonders for a horse when they return to their preferred surface). Overall it wasn't a bad race....he was over 20 lengths behind after they ran a 1/2 mile in 45.4, at the wire he was running pretty well and was beaten 7 3/4 lengths, so the race served its purpose. The Whitney comes up a day less than 5 weeks from his race in the Firecracker......under the circumstances I think Lukas played his hand well. TJ

Obviously did not take to the turf. BD's analysis prior to race was spot on but he needed the race and he probably will move forward with a run under his belt.

Didn't realize D Wayne was 2 for 60 at the meet. Seems like training horses has passed him by. Thought he had Dublin off balance all spring. Best thing he ever did was pull the plug on him for the Belmont.

Back to MTB; sure would be great to find a nice spot where he could win and get some confidence back before he's thrown to the wolves..

YEP, 2 FOR 60 (ISH)

one win with hamazing destiny. oddly enough i think he has done a brilliant job with that horse. this will be a decent grade 3/2 type sprinter.

truth be told, tj is spot on. he really had no choice and has his eye on the big prize.

what gets me though is the horses like fliving private and bird empire (both pulled up in races in the last 3 days).

but i love d wayne b ecuase people actually still listen to him and you get juicy odds on real contenders. tiz never would have went off at 5 to 1 if not for d wayne running his gab. i passecd on the race for reasons that i'm still hot on, but i had the winner pegged in retrospect. i'm not going to redbord and say i had the tri becuase i didn't, i would have went 4-5
