Frankel -- A Wonderful Tribute to Bobby

Postby Terlingua » Mon Oct 11, 2010 8:21 am

I thought some of you might be interested in this short feature at the Racing Post. Frankel, a son of Galileo, is named after Bobby Frankel & he's turning out to be a very talented boy!!!!

Yess he is talented but hasn't beaten much - Pathfork is more exciting than him imho.

Lets see what happens this weekend to Frankel he has some real horses to run against.

Thanks Terlingua for the video, it was neat to hear from Henry Cecil again ,such an accomplished trainer and never one to get too excited over a horse. It will be a miracle if Frankel can ever upstage the real man but hopefully he will do justice to Bobby's memory .

After Frankel passed away, I was walking thru his shedrow, I had the feeling Bobby was in his office, so I went to his office & looked if Bobby was sitting in his favorite chair. Bobby was there & I asked him if he has seen the change in our Tb thru Inbreeding, I then woke up from my dream. Thanks for the memories Bobby, Your friend Lou the Boot.

Ok, this guy won some races. But he also abandoned his family, and refused to see or reconcile with his daughter when she came to the hospital as he was dying. Good trainer: yes.

Well Frankel won the Dewhurst stakes today in what looked like a very good performance and is already a short price favourite for both the 2000 Guineas and The Derby.

What did he really beat?
Saamid and Dream Ahead didn't run their races, Francome said Dream Ahead wasn't the same horse he'd seen previously and Saamid threw his chance away behind the stalls.

How good is O'Briens horse that finished 2nd?
Thats the question does Ballydoyle have better or was that their No1? Roderic O Connor had only previoulsy won a maiden and the third horse of Bolgers Glor Na Mara was beaten 11.5 lenghts by Pathfork and only 5 Lenghts by Frankel.

For me the Jury is still out.

This horse is the real deal and I am sure that Henry Cecil had firm instructions from Abdullah that if he ever thought that he had a special horse then to keep him informed and save the name of Frankel. Cecil was never a man to get carried away and I am sure he has a high opinion of this horse without shouting it from the rooftops. Dublino you are a laugh a minute!, you say that he has beaten nothing then say he will have a tough job in the Dewhurst then he wins like a good one and you say the others never ran "their race". The jury has to go home eventually and move on. It's the Zenyatta effect all over again, give us all a break and get back to your Guinness. I am sure that he will meet a good one eventually but right now the is the Champ! Just like Ian Balding said about the magnificent Mill Reef after he destroyed his work companions at home one morning; "either he was an exceptional horse or they were very ordinary, both opinions proved to be true." T brace , I don't care about his personal life as I/We do not know the facts, however he loved his dogs and even missed the Breeder's Cup one year when one was seriously ill, that's all I need to know!

Yes Wilf he is Champion 2 yr old colt elect along with maybe Pathfork.
The other horses didn't run their races Dream Ahead was a shadow of himself in the paddock before the race and Saamid acted the monkey behind the stalls ala Quality Road in the classic last year.

He is a good horse, a very good horse a G1 winner, wether he is the second coming remains to be seen.

He is a small horse buzzy by nature lets see next May in the 2000 Guineas he is 4/5 fav 16/1 the field.

How do you know he is a small horse? Maybe I missed something here.

Actually Heathaze, Dublino is correct as I have seen video footage of this horse and he looks so unimpressive in size and form like an unfinished schoolboy. That may prove to be his undoing if his fellow freshmen outgrow him next year but he sure has talent and is certainly in good hands. I will just add though that if you see his performance yesterday in the Dewhurst on Youtube he would not relax and his style is still ungainly, he has a lot of maturing to do to harness his undoubted talent.

Yes Wilf he is small in stature but good things can come in small packages.

On the other hand Pathfork is a big rangey type of horse, I think maybe more scope as a 3 yr old, he has also won a G1.

Pathfork is due to run in the breeders Cup juvenile, he id by Distorted Humour and if he runs, could well win and be headed for the Kentucky Derby.

I think it's pretty cool Bobby Frankel's namesake is doing so well. Hope he has a prosperous 3 y/o season, too.

When you take a look at Frankel, he brings to mind another little bay colt, Northern Dancer. Further scrutiny finds Frankel carries the Rasmussen Factor (RF) to none other than Natalma, dam of Northern Dancer. This comes about through Northern Dancer (2x's) on the sire and dam's side and through ND's 1/2 sibling Spring Adeui on the dams side, which creates the RF. Keeping that in mind, I don't think his size will hurt him too much down the road. TJ
