How about that Dakota Phone!

Postby madelyn » Mon Nov 08, 2010 9:30 am

I have gone back and watched that race a few MORE times to see him move like that. And then I went out and HUGGED my wonderful 2010 colt who is bred so much like him.

I bought a mare named Smoldering at Keeneland awhile back, specifically for my stallion, Rocking Trick. In analyzing Phone Trick's other GSW offspring, I found Zavata and thought getting a Cox's Ridge line mare for Rocky might be a good idea. If you look at Dakota Phone's pedigree, and then my colt's pedigree, the similarities are amazing.

That's great Madelyn, what is your mare's name? Sorry I missed the great day live but Dakota's race was awesome!

Hi Madelyn,
Looking at both pedigree's I like yours better....I believe in the Rasmussen Factor and your baby has it to Shenanigans through 1/2 siblings Icecapade and Buckfinder. Aside from these two Shenanigans also produced Near East, Laughter, On to Glory and the great Ruffian. I wish you the very best with this gem in the rough. TJ

Thanks! I like Smoldering, my Sultry Song mare, for, well, everything - lovely conformation, Cox's Ridge, Buckfinder (Shenanigans), Blushing Groom AND Northern Dancer.

I have put him in the PQ as "Smokin Rock Star" and you can see his pedigree here

It is my stallion, Rocking Trick, who is a G1SW by Phone Trick.

Rocking Trick X Smoldering? How about "Pyrotechnics" for a name?

Hope this one really does his daddy proud. My only regret about Dakota Phone's win is that it was Morning Line he nipped -- wonder how much that bolt before the race may have cost the colt?

Pyrotechnics.. maybe Pyro Tech Tricks? I always have to give quarter to my other half who like to see the sire referenced somehow. This big bruiser of a colt has two hind socks and a big star on his face, and Smokin Rock Star IS available.. hmm well we have time to decide.

I was thinking of "Pyrotechnics" because pyrotechnic displays used to be such a big part of major rock concerts. At least until Michael Jackson got part of his hair fried off doing that Pepsi commercial.

What about a stage magician or stuntman particularly known for tricks involving fire? You'd have to get permission from the person or relatives, of course (if deceased), but could be a clever way of combining sire and dam.

And of course there was a number by the great rock group Boston titled simply "Smokin'," but maybe that's not enough of an allusion to Rocking Trick to please your better half.
