Hi Guys,
Why do they have to zero in on this stuff when it happens. This was on
MSNBC home page which really makes me think about changing my home page.
This stuff is horrible when it happens let alone paste it on the net for all the world to see.

Hi Jim,
That was a bad spill, they went out of their way to get that footage....it wasn't the actual race camera....must have been a pan shot from the stewards camera.. Here's an article on the incident, jockey Gracia was listed critical and recently updated to stable. TJ

That was indeed a gruesome spill and I believe the gray horse who clipped hells was euth'd because of a skull fracture.
As for why they post it - well, its the same reason people flock to car races - they want to see the gore, the crashes, the thrills and the spills. This is nothing new, it dates all the way back to the days of the Roman Coliseum and before - its a form of entertainment.
Nowadays in our age of the machines and technology horses are not looked on so much as livestock but as pets, so horse lovers often have a hard time watching this stuff (and it only shows that they are human indeed).

So, if you are so outraged that people "paste it on the net for all to see", why did you paste the link to the crash in your post?

Hi Toccet,
Because this list is primarly horse people and they understand the ins and outs of racing. We send these fragile animals out every day to do a job and we are all aware of the risk. I didn't post it to an "open" forum just to garner publicity or attract people to my site.

No, I certainly never thought you were trying to attract people to your site; I was just struck by what I saw as the paradox of disliking MSNBC drawing attention to a bad spill, and then providing the link to the bad spill yourself.

It' sort of like an airplane crash.
When I see an airplane crash on the news, I click on the story for details and watch the video footage over and over again. This is news.
However, thousands of airplanes take off, arrive at their destinations, and land safely every single day. All these events and there will be no article written or video aired, because no one cares. This is not news.
FWIW, I'm surprised to see a story like this on msnbc's homepage. Bad crashes, spills, and catastrophic injuries happen every single day at one racetrack or the other and it is not news.
