So Long Birdie fractured his left ankle on a muddy track while winning Feb 20. When the condition of the tracks are off, its time to stay in the barn. The best trainers walk their TB when the tracks are off, and wont risk an injury by running them.
The Ky. Derby hype makes these medicore trainers push their TB off the cliffs edge.

So Long Birdie...Part II
So Long Birdie has resurfaced for stud duty in New Mexico for 2006.
Interesting. Based on my high opinion of Birdstone, this is one I'll definitely have to watch.

I'd be careful with him if you're thinking of using him for stud- back when he was running, I seem to remember that there wasn't all that much faith in him based on his crookedness. To quote the BloodHorse, he has been "Hampered by a crooked leg and other physical issues" and he actually started racing at the claiming level.

His mom may be real good stuff, but this boy may not be too blessed in the genetics department, likely not nearly as much as his big brother.

He's sure got a big old head! But yeah I'd have to see his legs in person before I'd consider him , they don't look good from the side view:

Birdie has no engine . . . worst rear end I have ever seen. . . . .yeah right he'd be a gem to breed to . . . . . . . .

!!!! Worst Photoshop cut n paste job I've ever seen!!!! Wherever they shot him, the lighting doesn't match the background at all or the shadow they added. If you are going to have such an obviously faked photo, why not fix him up a little while you're at it?
Even as a fan of Birdstone, I wouldn't think that being his crooked-legged half brother would get you too far.
I'm sure Laurie will update us, if she gets a chance to see him in person, on how "crooked" he really is.

You bet I will, Monicabee. I'm not sure if I'll get to Buena Suerte or not. Roswell isn't exactly the hot spot for New Mexico TB farms; most are located in the area of Sunland Park or south of Albuquerque. It was much better known as a QH breeding farm dating back well over 20 years, but now seems to be placing more emphasis on its TB operation.
As for the pics...well, the explosion in the TB industry here is still a fairly recent thing, and a lot of these farms haven't figured out yet that the decision to use their own ("cheap") snapshots -- photolabbed or not -- as opposed to investing in some really good professional shots is NOT a good business move.
