Singapore Airlines Int Cup & KrisFlyer Sprint - May 22

Postby wangkw » Mon Apr 18, 2011 6:07 pm

Singapore's biggest racing events, SIA Cup and KrisFlyer Sprint, will be held on 22 May this year.

The S$ 3,000,000 (US$ 2,400,000) SIA Cup will be run over the turf surface of 2000 m clockwised. It was an event in the UAE World Racing

Championship Series till the later was discontinued in 2005. World Champions Epalo (2004) and Grandera (2002) had won this race before

taking the top title.

Organiser here has hoped this race will be attractive enough to draw in a stronger field this year. Among others, Gio Ponti, Cape Blanco and Dubai

World Cup contender, Bold Silvano are likely participants for the Cup. Both Snow Fairy and Presvis are also mentioned. Presvis ran 5th and 2nd

in this event in 2010 and 2009 respectively. Except for the inaugural race of 2000, all the cup winners came from outside the island.

The S$ 1,000,000 (US$ 800,000) KrisFlyer Sprint turf event will draw in strong parties from HK and overseas stables.

Rocket Man, the local hero which won the Dubai Golden Shaheen in March, will lead the Singapore continent. The HK entrants will likely

include, among others, Sacred Kingdom and Green Birdie, winners of this event in 2009 and 2010 resp. In both years Rocket Man was

beaten into 2nd by the two winners.

J J The Jet Plane, Kinsale King and Unzip Me have been mentioned.

Jap and Oz racers each has won once...But they participate more often in HK and did ok...even returned 1,2 in 2002 QE II Cup.

Our locally trained horses are all imported...90% geldings...from NZ and Oz to race for short distances...and from Ireland,
France, UK etc over 1600 meters and above (ocos there are a few exceptions).

IMO our Singapore market is underdeveloped...so it offers potential for foreign jockeys and trainers..but good jockeys are more
willing to join HK and not in Singapore let alone Malaysia....Dont ask me why.
