Durkin not calling TC

citing "health reasons".
Anyone know what those are? he has certainly gotten enormously fat, which can't be good.
I both like and get exasperated by him.
He sometimes shrieks at a perfectly non descript stretch move in a 5K claimer,
but usually notices details of all horse activity in a race (slipped saddle, tossing head, etc.) which I like.
Thoughts?
All shouting does is make you lose your voice.

I really miss him in the Breeders Cup, so I had high hopes that he would be back this year when NBC had the BC back. Now it looks like that won't happen. :( I think he does a great job, although I admit that once I heard him say that he does plan a little what he will say in big races, it did take a chunk of the enthusiasm out of it for me. I mostly thought it was all spontaneous, although now that seems like a silly thought. Of course the really professional callers are going to make sure that they aren't speechless, even if Big Red is ahead by 30 lengths. I wish him good health and hope that there isn't anything serious wrong.

I heard months ago that Trevor Denman (sp), the Santa Anita caller, was going to call the TC races.

It's been announced Larry Cullmus the voice of Monmouth Park and recently Gulfstream Park will replace Tom D. as the TC announcer. TJ

NPR did an interview w/him this afternoon around 4:30. he said its just too much stress, he's 60 years old, and didn't want pressure. the interview is probably on their website.
