Uncle Mo to WinStar

Postby TJ » Mon May 09, 2011 1:56 pm

Uncle Mo was sent to Win Star Farm until they diagnose his condition. Looks like he will sit out the Preakness as well. TJ

How much/what kind of layoff did this horse have over the winter? Just wondering if he was let to the farm over the break to be turned out or was he kept at the track in some sort of program?

I believe he was in Fla under Todd's supervision.

He had one month off at JJ Crupi's farm in Ocala, Florida then retutned to Todd's main string at Palm Meadows in December I believe it was...where he trained till the Timely Writer. He is at this farm until they determine what's actually causing the weight loss, because they are in the center of some of the best medical teams available. TJ

In my opinion he was just badly stressed because of the latetst race strategy.
The horse raced promintly, the last time they hold him back, fearing the fast pace. But I might be wrong

I think he was short in the Wood, and then came down with something. It happens. The two aren't necessarily related.

Flu can cause weight loss - or any number of maladies.

TJ, they are not baffled anymore. He was diagnosed cholangiohepatitis. I thought he was starting to look like a Palomino in the Wood Memorial. See link to story:

Hi Z,
Thank you for the update....Wow, this could have been pretty serious, this is an inflammation of the bile duct and it spreads into the liver.....it is known to create a serious colic in some cases. Let's hope he continues his forward progress and will return to the Pletcher barn in the next couple months. TJ

Uncle Mo will shed row under tack a couple days, then begin light training. If all goes well he will return to the track in July. Here's the article. TJ
