he goes out and says basically mo is going to retire, not because he's reinjuired or even because it's the end of the year and it's what you do. no his ego is just that big that if he can't have the biggest toy on the block he's going to take his toy and go home

You've got to wonder what he was thinking to make a comment like that. If I owned a horse that had just placed in a Grade 2 after over a year lay off, I being buying the rounds for the house.
I'll bet he is thinking time to put UNCLE MO to stud because he has nothing else to prove. Or he might have missed his monthly mental health check-up and he forgot that he was suppose to act like he has some sanity.

I think Repole thought he had the second coming of Secretariat in Uncle Mo. The horse will obviously never become that now, so anything else he does as a good, but not awesome 3 y o will only decrease his value. (I would think hurrying him off to retirement at this point would not do much for his value, either.).
I think he's delusional and more than a little irritating.
But the horse ran a gutty race. Remember, horses don't pick their people.

Uncle Mo showed a lot of talent in that race. Anf Mo ran a lot harder than he was trained. completely unsurprising if Mo was limping around in his stall. If he was sound, given that tough a first out after a lengthy lay off and typical Plecher training--had another one fracturing Sat. as it crossed the finish line--the possibility of some injury is high. Very possibly repole knows enough to understand this. The horse ran so hard the prudent thing may well be another layoff. Repole seems to have some smarts. BDW Repole's horse would be my opinion, but, I see ur point.

Uncle Mo raced lightly...3 in 2010 and 3 this year...March, April and August..true last 2 are scorching tough...but way below
normal gas meter...curious..how a toy will get so pivotal here ?

Hey it's the man's 2yr old champ and with that comes the pride and love and concern for the horse. I feel for every runner that I send out ,hoping that they come back sound ,win or lose. Why should he run him unless he is 100% and can beat the best? He has plenty more interesting runners to follow, pays his bills on time I guess and I doubt very much that Repole is worried over the money so the man has every right to express his feelings after a race like that. I don't see it from your angle bdw ,I see it from an owner's perspective and the forces that play upon their decisions.
the girl across the street gets $8.00/hr to babysit, How much does Todd get for babysitting Repole?
Repole has horses at all levels of tracks. He had horses running at Finger Lakes (running last in fact) the same day he was in Saratoga.. IMO Repole isnt in it for the long haul.. He is going to piss off so many people after a while no one will even acknowledge he is there.. Stupid ideas of starting his own race series to rival the BC and then making comments like this regarding his horses.. FLASHBACK- IEAH- Big Brown era..
Whatever, let him run his mouth, burn bright forabout 15 mins and be done with it.. minute 14:30 is right here..

In about late june around my birthday i remember watching joanne jones interview him on HRTV and he was talking about some issues and then went on a campaign to make him the comissioner of horse racing so he could "fix all of horse racings problems"
what he d doesn't understand is he IS the problem lol. Owners who meddle, who talk to much, who use trainers who don't do right by horses and are quick to look the other way as long as their trainers are winning for them and who have no vested interest in the longevity of the sport, are the problem

Well I guess I couldn't disagree with you more.
Owners who meddle and talk too much...seriously? This guy is pumping literally millions of dollars into the sport every year, and you don't think that entitles him to have and articulate an opinion--especially about his own horses?
I think there are very few people involved in horse racing that would call Todd Pletcher a trainer "who doesn't do right by horses" and as for Repole looking the other way as long as he's winning... I find that statement totally at odds with the way he has given his horses vacations, time off, all sorts of testing etc to ensure that when they're racing, they're in the peak of health.
As for Repole "having no vested interest in the longevity of the sport" how does that jibe with your statement that he wants to be commissioner of horseracing so that he can help fix the industry's problems? That sounds to me like a guy who wants to be more involved, not less.
I hope Crystal is wrong about Repole quickly losing interest in the game. If he does, however, I'd imagine his turnaround will be due to stuff like this: hearing nothing but criticism and condemnation for just trying to spend some money, enjoy himself, and do the right thing by his horses.
I didn't say Repole would lose interest in the sport, more along the lines of the industry will lose interest in him.
He is a business man (outside of racing) and has a tough skin and knows not everyone is always going to be on the same page with making decisions as he is. But Repole strikes me as a person who would say something like if he isnt getting along with a trainer that he will get a license and do it himself.
I hope he plans to give his FL bottom claimer 4 months off for his last place finish the other day.. I have a feeling however he isnt on a van headed to Winstar..
Honestly to say (IMO) because this man invests millions he is good for the sport is not quite right. He isnt investing his millions into improving track conditions, new and better safety measures or equine health measures.. no he is investing money in commerce for his own benifit. He is creating a product (a racehorse evid to become a stud). He in putting money into his own investment to someday (hopefully) make a return.. What all logical business people do.

this is one of your better posts. not to say you have a bunch of crappy posts but this is a very good and oft misinterpreted point.Crystal wrote:I didn't say Repole would lose interest in the sport, more along the lines of the industry will lose interest in him.

in retrospect, go back to the 80's sales boom. was sangster at the end of the day, good for horse racing? I mean he definatly wasn't BAD for horse racing, but was he truly GOOD? he pumped a crapload more money into horse racing then repole has (yet). All he did was create a false sense of improving economic conditions for breeders, but he didn't improve the game of racing a lick. Make no mistake i understand that we need owners, especially younger ones like Repole, and they essential to the horse racing circle of life so to speak, but to say he's good above all else simply becuase she spends money and makes breeders smile, is just,. meh.
I would even go so far as to say Sangster and Godophin have hurt more than they help yes they put money in the pockets of breeders, but at the same time, ship horses from outside of american circuits and take the best horses we have to offer out of our best races (espeically goldphin).. how does that help horse racing?
if repole wanted to seriously help horse racing he would start treating Mo like a race horse and not a test tube baby, and run the damn horse. he has ran a combined, 6 times to date. 6. that's a race every other month.
