wangkw: You have a point mate. So, now that I understand international time and if my math is correct, it seems that 12 AM EST on Tuesday morning seems a reasonable airtime for those of us on the US East Coast.
Now I can set my televsion recorder and when I wake up have breakfast as a spectator of the Melbourne Cup. Cheers!

I have jogged around Flemington Racecourse many times when I was a "strapper" working there. Like Breeder's Cup, the "Arc de Triomphe" day and Derby Day ,the Melbourne Cup should be on every racegoer's bucket list. The first tuesday in November is a State holiday in Victoria, Australia especially to celebrate the Cup and over 100,000 people can make an awful mess but the VRC has the track clean and ready to go for the Oaks Day only 2 days later. It's a great day even if you get stuck out in the car park partying. I never forget standing behind the winning owner of the 1977 Cup in a queue for a taxi outside the rail station about 2 hours after the race, he had his cup replica clutched in his arms.........priceless!

Not been there before to witness this special annual moment when the mother globe stops spinning for 3 mins...On document it is kinda carnival
and people esp ladies all put on comtemperary or exortic custumes..free flow of Champagne, sumptuous lunch buffet..music and dance...in such
subtle synchronization with the action on track..wholeheartedly cheers..deafening roars..euphoric screams..drunkards seen wobbling from
table to table challenging strangers..there is no tomorrow..as if everyone gets the winner in every race..and actual results are just a matter
of formality..irrelevant......must be quite fun.

Cant not be 24 hours...else Melbourne and NY are but one same city LIKELY.
However...does Australia do Daylight Savings Time and would they have "sprung ahead" this current weekend, changing everything???
May 2013: Plan ahead now for the Phalaris/Teddy Centennial!

This time no jap horses...which on average run longer than Aussie and Eurozone counterparts..in that case..to choose the few
front finishers in St Leger, wherever is the place, might be a viable solution...also absent are winners of Prix Du Cadran and
Ascot Gold Cup (4000 meters and Above).

A few weeks ago on another Dutch forum a friend of mine mentioned the French horse Dunaden. I'll give a translation.
"You know it all, Melbourne Cup - the race that stops a nation. The most important race in Australia. What you might now know is that the French contender Dunaden has Dutch roots.
Born in France on 04-12-2006 he was purchased at the foal sales at Arquana. He was not expensive, only € 1.500 Hans Diehl and Jetty van der Hulst paid. At their stud at Nederweert the colt grew up and 18 months later he was given into training with German trainer Doris Smith. Bred as a pure stayer, one couldn't expect much of him as a youngster, but he ran once as a 2yo (unplaced), but not too bad finishing sixth in a field of thirteen. He was placed as a 3yo and won his maiden on 12-05-2009, but onfortunately this was a claimer and he was sold. He changed hands twice and was also trained by four different trainers before mr. M. Delzangles became his current trainer. He was seldom unplaced and won already two GR. 3 races, one of them the Australian (Geelong Cup, 2400m)as a prep for the Melbourne Cup."
Miracles can still happen!!
