Japan -- 7th Triple Crown Winner

On Oct 23 Orfevre became the 7th horse in Japanese racing history to win the triple crown title. He is by Stay Gold, out of Oriental Art.

The previous 6 triple crown winners in that country :

2005 -- Deep Impact (Japan Cup winner 2006)
1994 -- Narita Brian (Japan Cup 6th/13 1995)
1984 -- Symboli Rudolf (Japan Cup winner 1985, 3rd/14 1984)
1983 -- Mr. C. B. (Japan Cup 10th/14 1984)
1964 -- Shinzan
1941 -- St. Lite

is he considered to be as good as deep impact?

It is only 3 yo for Orfevre now..but barring foresight..I think Deep Impact is superior (14-12-1-0)..not that he has a legendary father (US HOY)..his
winners as a 4-year old include the high weights at international level ..Japan Cup, Arima Kinen and Takarazuka Kinen...his winning time for the
domestic 3200 meters Tenno Sho Spring was a new world record at 3:13.40.

Many still remembered the 2006 ARC in which Deep Impact was DSQ from 3rd to last due to doping violation. Had that been not the case, Deep
Impact would have finished all his ventures within top 3.
