Malibu Stakes -- The Factor Takes The Money

The Factor managed to prove his salt..at the G1 7f Malibu Stakes on 27 Dec...with this win he is 3 for 3 in 7 furongs...IMO the field
is somewhat weak..but the 3&1/2 lenths margin makes it a commendable feat nonetheless..how possible could he end with only
one horse beaten in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile 7 weeks ago ?

More to come ?

There are several front running horses I believe belong to another "sui generis" category. Horses that could sprint a race at a blistering pace and be stretched to a mile or little bit longer. In my list of all time I put these in prominent spots:

01. LURE
02. HOLY BULL
03. (now) THE FACTOR
04. MR PROSPECTOR
05. TA WEE

Perhaps other cases can be included like say Spectacular Bid, but even Spectacular Bid didn't clicked super blistering initial fractionals like the aforementioned achieved.

I am referring to Lure and his surreal fractionals in the Gotham stakes.
These were horses who clicked incredible fractionals during a very contested race pace.

True...It was quite inexplicable why the breeders cup mile back to back winner had missed the turf title in those 2 years.
The 1994 scene was a complete reversal of thing..his front running charm evaporated..and the early pace of this race
wasn't quicker than the previous races ...but the most eye-catching run in this year's mile I guess belonged to Johann
Quatz, 2nd next to Barathea, the winner, which won the year's Cartier top title in Europe. Paradise Creek, which Lure beat
in 1992 & 1993 Mile, stepped up to run a few very good races in later part of 1994 and was eventually crowned male turf
champion (US).

Dr Fager was incredible but the paradigm created by Ta Wee (in shorter distances) was simply too surreal. I am very aware of Dr Fager, Seattle Slew, Precicionist, Secretariat, Affirmed, Forego, Zip Pocket, Buckpasser, Damascus, even Cee's Tizzy, but I was trying to outstand horses that clicked incredible fractionals while being contested, THEN got rid of those rivals, and THEN increased his lead while still clicking surreal final times.

Sure, Dr Fager was capable of doing that and much more, but since he was an all-around horse, that particular area (surreal fractionals) was less
conspicuous to the casual observer. Lure and his contested fractionals were so shocking one can only awe!

Zip Pocket was another incredible horse but since he was a regional force,
one can only wonder, what if... Was he a Breeder Cup Sprint kind of horse? I don't know perhaps not.
