I really like this concept - wish that more tracks would give this sort of thing a whirl - especially the top tracks. Articles lists a host of potential positives.

Jolt ,actually several tracks do a similar series in interesting ways including Turf Paradise ,Beulah in the fall and the spring. Mountaineer and Presque Isle have a series limited to Starter eligible horses . Even Thistledown gives it a try as a cheap "weight for claiming" event but they have trouble filling races sometimes. I have run at all of the above tracks in their marathon series with a little success and enjoyed it immensely. It's amazing how much certain horses "move up" when they have the pedigree and foundation to go the distance especially if they can relax early. The older horses certainly appreciate being given plenty of time to settle in a race before asked for some run.
