He comes by it naturally. He's got Groovy close up in his background.

Willie the Cat, The Great Face, Silvey’s Image and Plenty Zloty were all timed in 1:01 1/5; Emerald Downs switched its timing system from fifths to hundredths of seconds in 2011

It's a moot point because a tie of an existing record doesn't mean much (which it isn't). Look up the world records and you will see Plenty Zloty at 101.00. The charts have Willie The Cat at 101.20 which is almost 1/5 faster than Cat On Base time of 101.37 - regardless he is still a horse that will probably end his career with earnings of less than $100K.

Maybe you should call the track and tell them to make the correction

There is no correction to make - his name will never appear in the record books. It is only hype and easily debunked.

Apropos this topic of establishing a new world track record, there is a very important detail that should always be remembered:

A horse who in the old days (1980s) broke a track record by 1/5 of a second, let's say that the old track record for 7 furlongs was 1:20-2/5, and he clicked 1:20-1/5, in those days, shaving 1/5 of a second perhaps implied an even faster time when compared with today's chrometers.

Most probably, by today 1/100 of a second standards, that horse actually clicked 1:20.97, 1:20.98, or 1:20.99, but the old teletimer had to correctly denied him a 1:20 flat register in favor of a 1:20-1/5 registry.
That means that for today's horses, breaking a 1:20.00 registry is harder
than for a 1980s horse trying to break a 1:20 flat registry.

Who knows if NAJRAN ran faster than DR. FAGER during his 1-mile track record effort. Perhaps yes he did it, perhaps no. In order to assess this issue fairly, in such instances, both records should be kept until an undisputable better time be achieved.
