Softly Singing--first race and race placement

Postby Toccet02 » Wed May 02, 2012 5:29 pm

In doing a little race replay research tonight, I came across her first race, where she was placed first but that was in fact behind Champagne D'Oro, who was placed last with no inquiry evident on the replay or mention on the chart. Post-official DQ due to medication or other violation, I wonder?
Anyway, looking at SS's races at start of career, she was placed first in debut, MSW, then won next race, also MSW, then BOOM! Grade one race, where she meets up with Blind Luck and finishes 5th.

WHY do owners do that???

It's one way to find out how good they are.
Slam them up against a wall and see if it sticks, I guess.

but isn't it bad for their confidence level to suddenly get beaten when they had been doing well? Plus what are the chances of success in a G1 after two MSW preps? I know there aren't tons of 2YO races written in a given year, but they must have allowances, no?

Blind Luck was her stable mate. Jerry H et al as owner and trainer. Hearing more about if they worked together might be interesting.
