Best place to get jockey silks made

Postby erhrdt3 » Fri May 04, 2012 9:28 am

Hi fellow horsie friends,

I was just informed this morning that its time to get our silks made for 2 of our horses as they are ready to go.

Can someone suggest a place that you have had good luck with, no problems, etc. etc.
We are looking to get the tighter type of silks, not the ones that flap in the wind. I'm either going to get my custom design depending on $$$$$ or just a simple pattern.

Our farm is in Lexington, so if anyone can suggest someone around there, I am in IL and doing this long distance.

Thanks to all! :)
We will NEVER see another Ruffian......

I needed silks last year and these are my notes from my research;

http://www.joycesracingsilks.com/ Nylon $55.95; + Panel $20 + Sleeves $30 = $105.95 + $10 shipping.

http://www.horseshowproducts.com/ [email protected] Your jockey silks is a real nice, neat design. Nylon- $125.00; Lycra - $180.00 We are running right around 3 weeks turnaround time.

http://www.bettymatthewssilks.com/ BASE PRICE: NYLON - $75.00; AERODYNAMIC - $115.00
DESIGN ( PANEL): + $40.00; SLEEVE (STRIPES): + $45.00 Totals: Nylon - $160; Aerodynamic - $200
PRIORITY MAIL: 12.00. SHIPPING TIME IF ORDER PLACED TODAY: NEXT WEEK

http://www.customsilks.com/ Phone quote from Yolanda: Nylon - $165; Lycra - $190.

http://www.victorysilks.com/ Price would be $175 plus shipping. If you want a helmet cover it is an additional $20. They lose them as soon as they arrive in the color room, so I don't advise buying that product. However, ir you want one, we can certainly provide it. The price is the same for traditional and aerodynamic

http://www.racehorsesupply.com/ The cost for the silks shown are $175.00 ea. You may use satin or poly taffeta material. Delivery to you in less than 2 weeks. If you should have any questions please call me at 1 800 948 1254

http://www.dalyssilks.com/ Nylon Fabric: Body: Black with White Panel $110.00; Sleeves: Black and Gold Stripes
$65.00 TOTAL: $175.00 Satin or Aerodynamic Fabric: Fabric Upgrade Fee: $50.00 TOTAL: $225.00

http://tfloki.com/ The Finish Line of Okla, Inc. The price on your silks will be $206.50

http://www.championsilks.com/index.php The cost would be $215.00 plus $12.00 for shipping for a total of $227.00.

After all that research I ended up being ripped off by my final choice (removed from the above list). I sent a check which was cashed but never received the silks, despite my sending threatening letters and emails.

Then I ran across the following message posted on this site. I contacted Rebel and was pleased with the quality of her silks and her price. Give her a try.

Good luck!
Allison

Just wanted to post the following for those of you who may need racing silks.
Rebel De Jesus currently located in Nevada does a wonderful job on silks and her prices are VERY reasonable.
She can be reached at Home# 775-358-6789 . Cell# is 775-560-3551 .
Rebel is a long time trainer from Ohio who always made silks for the owners at Thistledown in Ohio when she trained there. She does great work and the colors hold up for years. She can provide color samples just as any other silk provider will and will make most any design. She does not do helmet covers any longer, just so you are aware.
She no longer trains and is supplementing her income by providing you quality silks that will last for years! She is also on FB under Rebel De Jesus and has some silk samples there that she made over the years.
Please do not hestiate to contact her if you are in need of new silks. You won't be sorry.

I got mine from Betty Matthews and she took the order over the phone, was very nice, made them in a hurry and shipped them right out. She could not have been nicer or have done a better job. Her site has all the prices listed online.

If you haven't played around with the design yet...this is a handy tool.

I have also used Betty Matthews. Fair prices, excellent quality and she is fun to talk to!

Pull on or button front is your decision, not theirs. They will wear what they are given. That's their job.

Speaking of jockey likes and dislikes, a close friend, a former leading rider, advised me to have a set of each kind of silks made in order to give jocks a choice.. He said in hot weather the aerodynamic silks are less comfortable. IMO it's a plus to have a happy jock on the horses.

I also don't think the aerodynamic material hold up as well with repeated track washing.
