Kentucky Derby--Preakness combo: How come?

Postby Jorge » Sun May 20, 2012 10:29 am

What circumstances are occurring these days that makes a Kentucky Derby winner more likely to win the Preakness Stakes than decades ago?

Preakness

Well....not sure about this but I think more of the vanquished in the Derby now choose to skp the Preakness in hopes of being better prepared for the Belmont. So, perhaps the field is not as strong as it would have been in the past where horses stayed on the Triple Crown trail longer even if there was not a chance that they could win the Triple Crown themselves. I think there is more emphasis placed on HOY now than in the past and this is at the expense of the Triple Crown races.

Oh yes! Quite judicious rationale. Thanks for posting your valuable opinion Jagger. Hmmm, haven't thought that much about the Preakness-skipping fashion.
